Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach Are Married After 12 Years of Dating

Greta Gerwig and her longtime partner, Noah Baumbach, are married, a representative for Barbie director, 40, confirmed to PEOPLE.

A source told PEOPLE that the two tied the knot at New York City Hall.

The couple first met on the set of the 2010 film Greenberg and they started their relationship in 2011.

The news comes after a busy year for the co-writing pair Barbie scenario and announced that they quietly greeted the second son in an interview with Elle UK published in July.

“The little one sleeps through the night. But I still do that thing when I wake up, every hour to 90 minutes, and I just float. You just want to look at that baby. So I’m in a bit of a twilight state,” the Lady Bird the director told the outlet.

The new addition joins their first baby together, son Harold Ralph Gerwig Baumbach, who they welcomed in March 2019. That December, Baumbach, 54, spoke to Vogue about why he enjoys working together with his current wife.

“I think the joy of writing for us is that it permeates everything. I’d show her a clip of my film, and then a few months later, I’d watch her film. I don’t want to sound sickly happy, but it’s a really great thing to watch someone you love make something and love the thing they’re making. I don’t know how else to put it other than to say great,” he told the outlet.

In 2020, both were individually nominated for an Oscar in the same year. While Baumbach was nominated for best film and best original screenplay for his film Marriage storyGerwig was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for little woman which she also directed.

As they walked the red carpet together at the 2020 Oscars, Baumbach told ABC’s Tamron Hall that Gerwig made him “a better person and a better writer.”

“When we write together, I always try to impress her. I feel like I write better because I work harder at it, I want her to be impressed,” he said.

Speaking to Gerwig in October, Baumbach opened up about his hesitation to move on Barbie but it later became “the best thing we ever wrote”.

“I always know enough just to follow what Greta says, and even in my gut and loathing, I kind of knew, ‘Well if she really believes that, then there’s something to it,'” he said, according to Diversity.
