Simone Griffin (Alexis Floyd) and Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) also faced the consequences of unauthorized surgery in the season 20 premiere of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
This post contains spoilers from the season 20 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy.
The fate of Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) was revealed in the season 20 premiere Grey’s Anatomy.
Doctors at Gray Sloan Memorial raced to save Teddy’s life after she collapsed in the OR during the season 19 finale. After she stabilized after an emergency heart valve replacement, her husband, Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), insisted on staying by her side .
However, Teddy is not out of the woods, Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) later notices that there is no pulse in one of Teddy’s legs and rushes her back to surgery to save the limb and remove the blood clot while Owen is still worried Teddy “could die” because he only gave her smoothies when she was in pain.

While they were waiting for Teddy to come out of surgery, Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) told him, “Put on the smoothie, Owen. I said horrible and frustrating things to Derek the last time I saw him and I kept beating myself up about it until someone convinced me to stop.”
Finally Teddy woke up and asked her, “What happened?” while Owen kissed her forehead and held her close.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 trailer: Meredith asks Nick to give interns a ‘second chance’
Trainees are in danger
The trainees faced the consequences of being outlaws. As fans may recall, Simone Griffin (Alexis Floyd) and Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) made the decision to perform emergency heart surgery on Sam Sutton (Sam Page) in absentia while Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) revived Dr. Jules Mill’s (Adelaide Kane) older roommate, Maxine Anderson (Juliet Mills), against her wishes.
Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) wasted no time making sure the interns knew their jobs were on the line, saying, “So, which one of you am I firing?”
As the interns continued to blame each other for the chaos at the hospital, Nick insisted that everyone “stay here,” adding, “Don’t move. Don’t practice medicine.”

Of course, the interns didn’t listen for long. dr. Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis) went to help Winston with the patient and Simone and Lucas followed. Outside the hospital, the couple rushed to help EMS take the patient to the emergency room, but were trapped when the ambulance repeatedly hit the self-driving car-sharing vehicle.
Meredith and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) then instructed Simone and Lucas to initiate trauma in the ambulance after they realized the patient was bleeding internally and told them to cut him open in the ambulance.
After Sam’s death, Simone begged Lucas not to go ahead with the operation, telling him, “I can’t die another death because of you.” However, he insisted that they opened the patient up and eventually stopped his bleeding until they could enter the hospital.
Later, Simone tells Lucas that she could “lose everything” because of their mistake, and he questions why she came to his rescue. She replied, “Because I can’t say no to you, Lucas.” He further asked her if she regretted getting involved with him after calling off the wedding, to which she replied, “No, you and me last night. It all happened so fast and I think I need a minute.”
After a disturbance at the hospital, Nick announced that he was leaving the hospital to be with Meredith in Boston and make Bailey an intern, saying, “You’re all still working here. But I don’t work anymore. I’m leaving, but it’s not because of you… I still trust you and always will. And I’m not worried because I’m leaving you in very capable hands.”
Bailey then walked into the room and said her iconic line from the pilot: “I have five rules.”

Meredith’s career is in jeopardy
The trainees weren’t the only ones facing consequences for their actions. Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen) has been working on “damage control” with her foundation’s donors after Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo) said they were focusing on the “wrong things” in their Alzheimer’s research.
After Meredith got out of line, Catherine threatened her, saying, “You have two options. Stop with your Alzheimer’s theories or I’ll close your lab.”

When she told Nick she didn’t know if she had a job left in Boston after talking to Catherine, he replied, “Well, you know if you keep quiet about the research. Hey, look, you’ll find a way, you always know.”
Later, Meredith vowed to return to her original research, explaining, “You gave me a chance to make a difference. I will do that. I’ll stick with what’s funded. You win,” and Catherine replied, “I always win.”
Despite the conversation, Meredith met with Amelia and told her that she planned to continue her research in secret, saying, “I need you to help me continue this, but no one can know.”
Ellen Pompeo will appear in at least 4 episodes Grey’s Anatomy Season 20
A romance of love and hate
Jules was still feeling mixed emotions after declaring that she loved — and hated — Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) for saving Maxine in the season finale. Maxine told her roommate, who was still sedated, “That’s not why I’m here. I’m here to work. And now my job is in jeopardy because of what he did, but I’m really glad you’re still alive.”
Blue later told Jules why he made the decision against Maxine’s DNI, explaining, “I’m not an idiot. I wouldn’t neglect any other patient’s DNI, but you love Maxine and I know how it feels to lose someone you love and I didn’t want you to have to go through that.”

During the conversation in the stairwell, Jules continued to send different signals to Blue. When he asked her to come later, she replied, “I said I hate you. I mean, I also said I love you, but I said I hate you.”
“So what cancels out the other?” he clarified as she replied, “What I’m saying is that I obviously didn’t make sense. I was an emotional mess because of Maxine, and vulnerability leads to emotional extremes.”
She ended up apologizing for giving him the “wrong idea” about the status of their relationship. Then he said, “No, it’s a relief. That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. I agree. That’s better. So things won’t be weird.”
