A man was pulled over for running a red light in Houston, Texas — and police discovered a gunshot victim, who the driver said was trying to help, in the car with him.
On Friday, the Houston Police Department (HPD) reportedly opened an investigation into a shooting a block away from the city’s Minute Maid Park, where the MLB Astros play.
According to local media outlets KTRK-TV, KPRC-TV and KRIV, officers were first flagged down at the intersection of Crawford and Capitol Street near the popular baseball field around 6:22 p.m. local time.
HPD told KTRK they believe the two men are the victims of a shooting that they say began at 6 p.m. in the area of Rothwell Street. KRIV reported that the incident is believed to have occurred at another location as well.
The first victim was a man in his 40s who was shot in both legs. He later drove to a local hospital for treatment, according to KRTK. He was in stable condition and claimed to have been robbed, according to KPRC.

The second reported victim, described as a man in his 30s, was also discovered when police stopped a black BMW in traffic for running a red light near Houston’s Incarnate Word Academy, according to KRTK.
HPD said the man had gunshot wounds to his torso, arms and both hands and that the driver allegedly tried to help him.
The media also reported that the driver claimed he may have fired shots, and KPRC reported that the driver picked up the victim around 6 p.m. near an abandoned building. Five minutes from the traffic stop, police found a second crime scene in an abandoned warehouse in Rothwell.

“We’re trying to find out exactly what he means [firing shots]” HPD Lt. R. Wilkins told KTRK. “It takes time to get to the truth.”
According to KPRC, officers performed life-saving measures on the second victim after stopping the car and before he was taken to the hospital.
Houston police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Sunday.
Police told local media they believe the two shootings are likely related.
