More Than 1,300 Flights Canceled After Catastrophic Fire Shuts Down London’s Heathrow Airport

Heathrow’s London Airport will remain closed at least 24 hours due to the “significant” current break.

On Friday, March 21, a representative for the most prominent Airport of England published in a post on X that the fire occurred in a nearby electric substation, which they rely on power, causing mass loss of energy.

“To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 11pm on March 21,” said X Post. “To passengers, they are advised not to travel to the airport and need to contact their airline for additional information. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

A statement provided by CNN has confirmed that the situation is expected to influence travel in the next few days.

“Although power is restored to some properties, we continue to work closely with our partners to reduce disorders.

“Firefighters have certainly evacuated 29 people from neighboring properties, and a 200-meter cordon was established as a precautionary measure, and about 150 people were evacuated,” Goulbourne continued. “Due to significant smoke, we warmly advise the locals to keep their windows and doors closed, because some smoke will remain for several hours today.”
