Gurdas Maan is a Punjabi singer, songwriter, choreographer and actor. He is one of the most famous names in the Punjabi music industry. He came into limelight with the Punjabi song “Dil Da Mamla Hai”.

Gurdas Maan was born on January 4, 1957, in Giddarbaha, Muktsar District, Punjab (66 years old; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Capricorn. He was educated at Yadavendra Public School in Patiala and pursued a master’s degree in physical education from a college in Maraut, Punjab. Thereafter, he completed a Diploma Course in Sports Coaching from Netaji Subhas National Sports Institute, Patiala. He has had a keen interest in music since he was a child. Maan participated in various singing and imitation competitions at the Academy Youth Festival and won several awards.

While Gurdas was in college, he performed the song “Sajna Ve Sajna” at an official function of the Punjab Electricity Board. Regular staff on the board were impressed with his performance and offered him a job in their department. During one such stage performance, Gurdas sang the song “Dil Da Mamla Hai”, which caught the attention of a Jalandhar TV producer who approached Maan to record a TV show with the same song. The song was released on December 31, 1980 and became an instant hit.

Gurdas Maan started his singing career in 1980 with the Punjabi song “Dil Da Mamla Hai”. The song was a huge hit. Next, he released the songs “Mamla Gadbad Hai” and “Chhalla”. His Punjabi song “Apna Punjab Hove” won many awards in different categories such as “Best Song”, “Best Album” and “Best International Artist” at the Asian Pop and Media Awards. In 2007, his album “Boot Polishan” won the British Asian Music Award for Best International Album. He also sang the hit song “Ki Banu Duniya Da” with Diljit Dosanjh in Coke Studio MTV Season 4. Maan also wrote and directed the TV show “POP Time” for Delhi Doordarshan.

Apart from singing, Maan also tried his hand at acting. He has starred in many popular Bollywood films and has received various awards such as the Jury Prize awarded to him by the President of India. He has also appeared in many Hindi, Punjabi and Tamil films. He is best known for starring in the film “Waris Shah-Ishq Da Waaris”, which depicts the Punjabi poet Waris Shah while composing his epic poem “Heer Ranjha”. He also made a special appearance in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Veer Zaara.
