In 2010, he joined the weightlifting center in the village and started training in this sport. His coach analyzed his performance and asked India head coach Vijay Sharma to take Gurdeep to the national camp. In 2015, Gurdeep joined the camp. He subsequently competed in numerous national and international weightlifting competitions including:
