A lifelong friend to Gwyneth’s father, who sadly passed away in 2002, the legendary director was always by his godson’s side. Steven even captured some of the Goop founder’s favorite moments, including her wedding to second husband Brad Falchuk in 2018.

“He’s definitely been filming me for years and he was really, you know, the only guy who filmed my wedding two and a half years ago.”
In a sweet twist, Steven, 76, gave Gwyneth, 50, one of her first big opportunities in Hollywood. In the interview with Weekly entertainmentThe director recalls: “Bruce [Paltrow]her father and [my wife] Kate [Capshaw] and I took Gwynnie to see The Silence of the Lambs when it first came out. We’re driving from the cinema, and I’m going back to work [on Hook] tomorrow. I’m looking at her in the rearview mirror, and she’s talking about the movie. And she had a really scared look on her face, and all of a sudden it flashed. … So I turned around and said, ‘Do you want to make a movie?’ That’s why she got her SAG card.”

After a trip to the theater, Gwyneth finally landed the role of young Wendy Darling in Hook (1991), and the rest is history! The actress has received various awards, including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a Primetime Emmy. Despite both having busy schedules, Steven and Gwyneth continue to spend quality time together, often going on vacations together. In 2011, the director took his godchild and her two children – Apple and Moses – on his $280 million luxury yacht Seven Seas to visit Porto Cervo in Sardinia.
