Hailee Steinfeld Teams with Neutrogena to Launch Its New Moisturizers: 'Full Circle Moment' (Exclusive)

Hailee Steinfeld has her skin care routine down to a science.

Acting since the age of ten, she spent countless hours applying makeup, and thanks to her mother, she had the proper tools to remove it.

“The only thing she ever took [makeup] off were my Neutrogena makeup remover wipes,” Steinfeld tells PEOPLE exclusively. “To this day, I have them in every bathroom, and I feel like probably in every bag I own.” In her teens, the star also swore by the brand’s Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. “It was on my vanity thanks to my mom,” she says.

Now, in what Steinfeld calls a “full-circle moment,” she’s teaming up with the skincare brand she grew up with to launch her collagen bank moisturizers, which seem tailor-made for where she’s at in her journey. .

“Since working with Neutrogena, my knowledge of collagen has grown immensely,” she says. “I learned that every year we lose 1% of our skin’s collagen starting in our twenties. I’m 27 years old — this is a product I need now more than ever.”

Steinfeld, who has been using Neutrogena Collagen Bank SPF 30 Sunscreen Moisturizer during the day and its bakuchoil version at night for several months, says it was easy to work the day and night cream into her routine because she had already developed good skin habits inspired by her mother.

“She was always so aware of what she was putting on her skin, and I was always aware of that and appreciated that,” says Steinfeld. “I keep having these moments where I realize I’m not 12 anymore – I’m 27 – and I thank God that she taught me everything she knew, either directly or indirectly, because now I’m at a point in my life where it matters to me.”

These days, Steinfeld says she’s embracing discovering what works for her. 

“One of the things that I’ve come to recognize is the importance of falling in love with taking care of yourself and taking care of your skin,” she says.

“I feel like while there is maybe a negative connotation to aging, this is a time in our lives where we can focus on pre-aging and making that a process that we fall in love with.”

Overall, Steinfeld says, her approach to skincare is “less is more. My skin will freak out otherwise. So I have my key products and I love to do a Hydrafacial every now and then.”

Of her day-to-day regimen, Steinfeld says, I never leave the house without [having applied] Collagen Bank SPF 30 Moisturizer and then finish the day with Collagen Bank Moisturizer. Among other things, she says, “when I wake up, the first thing I do is scratch my tongue.” That’s what Rebecca Faria (from Detox by Rebecca Beverly Hills) taught me.

She continues, “After that I brush my teeth, they clean really well, apply moisturizer and make this amazing lymph tea [Faria created]. I don’t drink caffeine, really, unless it’s an espresso martini, but that’s another story!”

The star says she has become “more careful” about her steps before bed.

“It’s putting on some soothing music, putting all my devices on ‘do not disturb’ and taking the last few moments before I go to bed to cleanse myself. Literally and metaphorically, just get it all off my skin.”

“And when it comes to applying product, taking your time and not just slapping it on your face, putting on your super cute PJ set and then crawling into bed.
