Halle Bailey Opens Up About the Unique Name She and DDG Chose for Their Baby Boy: ‘We Loved It’ (Exclusive)

Halle Bailey is loving life as a new mom!

While speaking exclusively with PEOPLE about her partnership with CORE Hydration, the singer and actress, 23, also opens up about how she and boyfriend DDG chose the name for their baby boy Halo, who was born late last year.

“It was actually my boyfriend’s idea,” Bailey says of her newborn son’s nickname. “He’s the one who came up with his name.”

“We just hit it off and loved it,” he continues Little Mermaid star. “I like the name Halo.”

When asked if there is any connection between her child’s name and the song of the same name that mentor Beyoncé released from her I’m… Sasha Fierce album in 2008, Bailey says with a laugh, “He definitely has a theme song.”

Bailey announced the birth of her first baby on Instagram in December. At the time, she shared a photo of her manicured hand holding that tiny hand with a gold bracelet engraved with the name “Halo.”

“Even though we’re only a few days into the new year, the biggest thing 2023 could do for me is bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo 🥰👼🏽 ✨the world is desperate to meet you 😉 🤣♥️,” Bailey wrote in the title of the cute post.

A few weeks later, in a video posted on his YouTube page, 26-year-old DDG opened up about his journey into fatherhood for the first time, calling Bailey – who he’s been with for over a year – a “great mum”.

“Me and Halle had a baby together. I wouldn’t pick any other person in the world to have a baby with. We’re learning. She’s a great mom. It’s like crazy. She’s amazing,” the rapper said in the video.

According to Bailey, her journey into motherhood was unlike anything she had ever faced before.

“It’s so exciting, this new role for me,” she tells PEOPLE with a big smile. “I am obsessed with my little boy. He is the cutest angel in the world.”

Through her partnership with CORE Hydration, which she works on with sister Chloe Bailey, the “Angel” singer says the water brand’s message goes “hand in hand with what I have to remind myself to do.”

“I’m breastfeeding, and it takes a lot out of you. You have to drink so much water,” says Bailey. “So the fact that CORE Hydration has electrolytes and everything, and the pH balance is really good, that’s what I really need for myself.”

“It’s really helping me as I embark on this new journey, because I’ve never done it before,” she adds. “I’m discovering so many different things about myself. It’s like a dream come true.”
