Halle Berry Mourns Late X-Men Costar Adan Canto After His Death at 42: ‘Forever, Forever in My Heart’

Halle Berry pays tribute to Adan Canto, who died on Monday at the age of 42.

The actress, 57, took to her social media accounts on Tuesday afternoon to pay tribute to her late The X-Men costar.

“I have no words yet…. but my dear sweet friend Adan just got his wings. Forever, forever in my heart 🕊️ 🤍,” Berry wrote alongside a close-up photo of Cant.

She also added a post to her Instagram story with a gray heart emoji hovering over his picture.

Berry and Canto recently worked together in the 2020 MMA drama bruises, which was Berry’s directorial debut. Canto played Desi, Berry’s character’s manager and boyfriend.

They also both appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past 2014 where she played the mutant Storm and he played Sunspot.

Canto was also known for his role as Aaron Shore in the ABC political thriller Designated as a survivor from 2016-2018 His colleagues took to social media to express their grief and remember the actor.

“I am heartbroken at the loss of Adan Cant. He was such a wonderful spirit. As an actor, his desire to do well, to be great, and then better, was truly impressive and we will miss him very much,” showrunner Kiefer Sutherland said posted on Instagram. “I am also heartbroken for his wife Steph and his two young children. Rest in peace Adan.”

“I am completely lost for words. He was the strongest person I know in every sense of the word and I am so angry that this happened,” wrote Italia Ricci. “F–k cancer.”

“A beautiful friend… You are a person on a level that Hollywood didn’t even deserve,” added Maggie Q, who also starred in the series. “Everyone who knew you was lucky.”

Kal Penn echoed his colleagues, writing: “Absolutely heartbreaking to lose Adan Cant. He was so genuine and warm, immensely talented; such a good person who was both calm and motivating. And funny. He was very, very funny. I am so I’m lucky to have known him. My heart goes out to Steph, the kids and the whole family.”

Oliver Hudson, who starred with Canto in The Cleaner, also paid tribute. “I only knew Adán for 2 years, but that was enough to know what an amazing friend, father and man he was. Wow, how he loved his family. We would spend so much time talking about our children and what kind of people they could become,” shared Hudson “I am truly devastated. I love you, man.”

Canto, who began his musical career in Mexico before becoming a Hollywood actor, died after a battle with appendicitis cancer, which he kept out of the public eye, according to Deadline.

“Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who saw her were forever changed,” Canto’s reps told UTA, Entertainment360 and Viewpoint, according to the release. “He will be greatly missed by many.”

Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment also shared a statement saying they were “heartbroken” to learn of the actor’s death.

“A wonderful actor and dear friend, we have been honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment family since his US debut in Next more than ten years ago,” the statement said.

“He lit up the screen recently Cleaning lady with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability,” the statement continued. “This is an unfathomable loss, and we mourn alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan very much.”

Canto played Paul NextSunspot in X-Men: Days of Future PastRodrigo Lara Bonilla on Narcos and Aaron Shore on Designated as a survivor.

He also starred as Arman Morales in the Fox crime drama Cleaning lady. The series is set to return for a third season on March 5, but Canto was not involved in filming, according to Deadline.

Behind the camera, Canto has also directed and produced two short films, Before tomorrow in 2014 and The Shot in 2020

Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children, Roman Alder, 3½, and Eva Josephine, 1½.
