Hallmark Channel to Honor Jane Austen with February ‘Loveuary’ Movies Inspired by the Author’s Work

Calling all Jane Austen lovers!

Hallmark Channel has announced that it is honoring the beloved author Loveuary with Jane Austen, the month of premieres of original films inspired by the author’s work, in February. Every Saturday, a new movie will premiere.

“Jane Austen’s stories are timeless and continue to resonate with readers and viewers of all ages,” Lisa Hamilton Daly, executive vice president of programming at Hallmark Media, said in a statement. “Our films will bring her beloved characters to life in fresh, new ways and honor the many women who continue to be inspired by them.”

200 years after her death, why are people still so obsessed with Jane Austen?

The tribute begins on Saturday, February 3 with the premiere of the film I’m calling Mr. Darcy — starring Mallory Jansen and Will Kemp — which describes how “the love of Austen’s stories helps two people overcome their pride and confess their faith in love,” according to a Hallmark release.

The Hallmark Channel will also debut Love and Jane with Alison Sweeney and Benjamin Ayres, which tells the story of a woman who finds guidance from Austen “literally” as well as The American in Austen — starring Eliza Bennett, Nicholas Bishop and Nell Barlow — about “a librarian who thinks no one can live up to Mr. Darcy gets an unexpected chance to find out if that’s true.”

The premiere month ends with a “luxuriously beautiful adaptation” of the film Reason and feeling with Deborah Ayorinde, Bethany Antonia, Dan Jeannotte and Akila Largie.

In addition to the Austen-inspired films, the network is launching a virtual Hallmark Channel Book Club hosted by Hallmark Channel Fan Officer Jenny Forwark (@chieffanofficerhmk). Viewers will be able to discuss “this season’s Loveuary premieres, Jane Austen’s legacy and the importance of female-centric storytelling.”

Fans can get an early start on celebrating Austen by reading two of the author’s classics, Pride and Prejudice and Reason and feelings ahead of the club discussions on January 25 and February 15.
