Halsey confronts herself in her latest visual.
On Friday, September 6, the pop star, 29, shared the latest single from her upcoming album A great imitator“Ego”, with accompanying music video.
In the visual, which was written and directed by Halsey, the female version of the singer confronts their male version as they dine, chase each other around the house and try to kill each other. At the end of the video, a female version of Halsey hides in the back of their alter-ego’s car and suffocates them.

On the ’90s-inspired alternative track, the “Without Me” artist struggles with the way the public perceives her and her inner struggles.
“I think I should try to kill my ego / Cause if I don’t, my ego might kill me / I’ve grown up but somehow lately / I’ve been acting like a fucking baby / I’m really not as happy as I seem,” they sing on paths.
Last month, Halsey announced her fifth studio LP A great imitator was on the way.
They shared an epoch-spanning trailer revealing that the project will be a “confessional concept album.”

In the teaser, Halsey admitted, “I really thought this album was going to be the last one I ever made.”
The visual featured the “Should Be Sad” artist in retro clothing and hairstyles, imagining who they might have been in previous time periods.
“What if I debuted in the early 2000s? 90’s? The 80s? 70s?” Halsey asked in a voiceover. “Am I still Halsey every time? Do I still get sick in every timeline? Am I going to be a mom?”
In the trailer, Halsey reflects on artists like Annie Lennox, David Bowie and Britney Spears — the latter of whom they interpolated on their recent single “Lucky.”
The visual also featured clips of the three-time Grammy nominee’s unreleased tracks showcasing the aesthetic of different decades of music.
“If it all ended now, is that a person you would be proud to leave behind? Is that even you?” Halsey concluded.
