Harry & Meghan’s Archewell charity declared ‘delinquent’ & ordered to stop raising money after failing to submit records

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation has reportedly been declared delinquent and ordered to stop raising money.

It is said to be a result of the Sussexes’ charity failing to hand over records – and foot the bill.

The Telegraph reported that Archewell was given a wrongdoing notice and banned from raising or spending money until he pays the fees.

Allegedly the charity did not file its 2022 tax return or related expenses on time.

However, the Tele reported that the documents were filed and the check sent, but it never arrived.

The Sussexes team were apparently unaware that the check had been lost until they received a notice dated May 3.

A notice to the Archewell Foundation said: “The above entity has been listed as delinquent on the Register of Charities and Fundraising for failing to submit the required annual reports and/or renewal fees.

“An organization listed as delinquent is not in good standing and is prohibited from engaging in conduct that requires registration, including collecting or disbursing charitable funds.”

Archewell was urged to quickly send all the necessary forms and fees “immediately” and was told that he had done so – by sending another check.

The California Department of Justice notice reads: “An organization may also be subject to penalties and have its registration suspended or revoked by the Registry.

“Once you submit your late record(s), you will be notified of the amount of any late fees you owe.”

The Sun has approached the Archewell Foundation for comment.

Meghan calls Nigeria ‘my country’ after arriving an hour late for interview as pals reveal Harry ‘stung deeply’ by King’s disdain

Harry and Meghan were in Nigeria – and the Duchess gave a sweet nod to Lilibet on Mother’s Day.

They presented the partnership between Archewell and the non-profit organization Giants of Africa, whose goal is to empower young people through sports.

It comes after the charity reported huge success last year.

In December, Archwell was said to have suffered a huge drop in donations of £8.7m compared to the previous year.

The detailed return showed donations in 2022 fell to just over £1.6m, compared to £10.3m given in 2021.

It was further revealed that two major donors contributed £795,210 ($1 million) each.

But two generous donors to the Harry and Meg Foundation remain anonymous.

The year before, an unidentified donor had given them £7.8 million, but that staggering generosity was not repeated in 2022.

Harry and Meghan’s foundation also recorded a loss of £536,357 ($674,485) due to a lack of donations as revenue was recorded at $2 million while expenses were $2.67 million.

What does ‘delinquency’ mean?

In the business sense, delinquency means that the state of debt is overdue.

  • Delinquency occurs when a borrower misses a loan payment, which can affect their credit score.
  • Delinquency rates are used to show how many accounts in a financial institution’s portfolio are delinquent.
  • When a charity does not submit complete documentation for each fiscal year, its status in the Attorney General’s Register of Charities and Fundraising will be listed as Delinquent.
  • If the malfunction is not corrected, the status of the Registry will additionally change to Suspended and/or Revoked.
  • A charity that is not in good standing with the Register of Charities and Fundraisers must not operate or receive donations.

THE SUSSEXES BREAK THE SILENCE

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke their silence amid the charity drama as they praised their recent trip to Nigeria.

Harry and Meghan released a statement about their “unforgettable” visit on the Sussexes’ website.

It read: “Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex ended their unforgettable trip to Nigeria with a cultural reception in Lagos and a fundraising polo match for Nigeria: The Unconquered.”

Their statement touched on the pre-match parade and the “lively display of young enthusiasts in polo gear”.

They welcomed the celebratory day “filled with sport and spirit”.

“A friendly rivalry between the teams, aptly named Duke vs. Duchess, added a layer of excitement to the event, with the Duchess team claiming a 5-3 victory,” the statement continued.

“The day ended with the awarding of medals to the pair, a gesture of gratitude for the player’s prolific talent and dedication.”

The couple’s message ended by expressing their “deepest gratitude” to the hospitable Nigerian community for their “tremendous hospitality”.

PRINCE Harry was ready to continue his African tour – as he turned to basketball.

He and wife Meghan unveiled a partnership between their Archewell Foundation and the non-profit organization Giants of Africa, which aims to empower young people through sport.

The Sussexes watched training at Ilupeju High School in Lagos, Nigeria, before Harry, 39, joined them.

He said: “The power of sport can change lives.

“It brings people together and creates a community and there are no barriers, which is the most important thing.”

Meghan, 42, later swapped the Carolina Herrera button-down shirt and traditional Nigerian skirt she received as a gift for a £3,000 yellow dress by the same designer.

She and Harry walked hand in hand when they arrived at the home of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, where they were guests of honour.

Meanwhile, it emerged that during his three-day visit to Britain last week, Harry stayed at the hotel where he spent the night before his wedding in 2018.

Then Prince William stayed, but now the brothers hardly talk.

The king was said to be too busy to see Harry on his trip.

But The Sunday Times reported that Charles had agreed to place him in the royal home.

However, Harry instead opted for the £600-a-night Coworth Park Hotel, near Ascot, Berks.

The five-star hotel is owned by the Sultan of Brunei and is located on the edge of Windsor Great Park – a 15-minute drive from Windsor Castle.
