Harry Potter: Fan Casting Younger Versions Of The Adult Characters

Harry Potter is an ever-expanding universe filled with complex characters from Hermione Granger to Kingsley Shacklebolt. The adult characters in the films are a diverse and multifarious group who played a big part in the story and are to thank for Harry’s success.

The movies show some bits and pieces of different characters’ backstories, but fans would love to see a more in-depth view of their evolution into the characters they came to love. If the adult characters were to be featured in their prelude series or film, then they would need to be cast as actors who adequately fit the part.

Tom Riddle — Hero Fiennes Tiffin

Voldemort’s dark, twisted character is crucial in the Harry Potter films. His evolution from Tom Riddle to Voldemort is still a fascinating and mysterious plot that wasn’t exactly depicted fully in the original films. Fans want a better look at how Voldemort became Voldemort, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin should play him.

He not only looks the part; his mysterious and brooding personality would also be the perfect fit for a young Tom Riddle. The Harry Potter films give glimpses of backstories of Voldemort with different young actors already, but none of them felt right after seeing Voldemort in his new form. Fans need an actor who can better portray the inner evil and lust for power that created the infamous Dark Lord.

Bellatrix Lestrange – Kaya Scodelavio

kaya scodelvavio fancasted as bellatrix lestrange harry potter

Voldemort’s right hand, Bellatrix Lestrange, is one of the series’s most evil characters. It’s hard to live up to the skill of Helena Bonham Carter, but Kaya Scodelvaio’s eccentric persona, dark hair, and fair skin could do justice as her younger version.

There is very little about Bellatrix Lestrange in the films, besides showing how loyal she is to Voldemort and revealing she is Sirius’ cousin and sister to Narcissa Malfoy. It’s hard to believe a character could become so evil and demented for no reason, and it would be interesting to see things from Bellatrix’s perspective. Even though Kaya has blue eyes, she does have similar features to Helena Bonham Carter and could be a great younger Bellatrix.

Lucius Malfoy – Harry Lloyd

Harry Lloyd fancasted as Lucius Malfoy Harry Potter

Lucius Malfoy’s arrogant and close-minded view of the world does seem similar to Harry Lloyd’s character in Game of Thrones, making him the perfect candidate to play Lucius’ younger version.

Harry Lloyd’s appearance fits the part perfectly with the sharp jaw, judgy blue eyes, and curved smirk. He would be the perfect younger Lucius if he could bring some of that self-entitled, bratty attitude with his character, Viserys, in Game of Thrones.  Malfoy is a very different kind of villain in Harry Potter—it’s obvious he has twisted world views, the ability to manipulate his way into every situation, such as befriending the Minister, and despite showing off an overly confident attitude, is a coward. It would be interesting to see Harry Lloyd play a younger version of him rising to his status and entanglement with the Death Eaters.

Mad-Eye Moody – Cameron Monaghan

Cameron Monaghan fancasted as Mad Eye Moody Harry Potter

Mad-Eye Moody is known to be the best Auror, and despite his slight madness, is one of the fiercest wizards. If anyone deserves a prelude series or film added to the universe, it would be Mad-Eye, and what better actor to play his younger version than Cameron Monaghan.

Mad-Eye is known for being a little ‘mad,’ which probably came from his tough service as an Auror. Fans see Mad-Eye very little in the movies, and unfortunately, his death in Deathly Hallows put an end to his character. If fans were to see him in some prelude films, Cameron Monaghan would be the perfect actor to play him. Cameron has already proved he knows how to play characters that are a little odd and off their hinges with his role in Gotham as the Joker and could easily portray the madness and aggressiveness of Mad-Eye Moody.

Minerva McGonagall – Joey King

Joey King fancasted as McGonagall Harry Potter

Professor McGonagall is the head of Gryffindor’s house, proving she is brave and loyal and perhaps one of the best wizards in the films. Although she keeps the appearance of a strict teacher, her compassion and loving nature come across when it comes to her students. Joey King would make a fitting young Minerva if fans ever got to see her coming-of-age story.

Joey King is a talented actress known for playing many different roles, such as in The Act or Netflix’s Kissing Booth. Her quirky acting and talent for diversity would make for a great McGonagall if a film came along revealing her upcoming, more into her Animagus ability, and how she became to be a professor at Hogwarts.

Severus Snape – Adam Driver

Alan Driver fancasted as Snape Harry Potter

Snape is another mysterious and complex character that fans get a glimpse of in the movies but would love to see more of in a more in-depth prelude. Some actors played younger versions of him in the quick flashbacks, but Adam Driver would be the ultimate choice for a younger Snape if it came to it.

The uncanny similarities in acting with low and articulate speech and dark-haired, dark-eyed appearance between the late Alan Rickman and Adam Driver are remarkable. It is a no-brainer for Adam Driver to be cast as Snape’s younger self if another movie happens. Snape’s misunderstood and mysterious character became a fan favorite, and fans would love to see more about his story and undying love for Lily.

Lily Potter – Sadie Sink

Sadie Sink fancasted as Lily Potter Harry Potter

Lily Potter, the loving mother and accepting friend, was crucial to the story of Harry Potter. If it wasn’t for her huge sacrifice, Harry might not have even survived or grown to become the “Chosen One”. If Lily Potter had to be cast in her younger years, Sadie Sink would be a good choice.

Funnily enough, Lily Potter was supposed to have blue eyes, so we see several characters in the films point out how Harry’s blue eyes remind them of his mother. Unfortunately, the adult Lily and the flashback Lily didn’t have blue eyes. If there is a new film with young Lily present, Sadie Sink would be a much better choice, with her stunning blue eyes and gorgeous red hair.

Sirius Black – Timothee Chalamet

TImothee Chalamet fancasted as Sirius Black Harry Potter

Timothee Chalamet is one of the most popular actors right now, and he’s proving to be a talented and diverse actor with all his features in new movies. He is the perfect actor to play James Potter’s best friend and Harry Potter’s godfather—Sirius Black.

Gary Oldman, as Sirius Black, was capable of saying a lot without saying anything at all. His facial expressions said it all. Timothee has a similar trait as an actor, portraying emotions through his eyes and expressions. Sirius is a playful character, but there is a touch of madness from his years in Askaban. Although he has a lighthearted disposition, he is also a steadfast guardian for Harry and willing to die for him. It would be great to see Timothee take on this role as Sirius.

Remus Lupin – Austin Abrams

Austin Abrams fancasted as Lupin Harry Potter

Remus Lupin, much like James and Sirius, has a playful disposition, but he has a dark side. Austin Abrams looks a lot like the original actor and has shown he knows how to play characters that are a little two-sided.

Lupin was probably one of the best Hogwarts professors and another great protector for Harry, but he had a secret—he was a werewolf. He is another mysterious character that fans sadly lost during the battle in Deathly Hallows. His backstory would be an entertaining and unique tale to see unfold, and Austin Abrams could easily play his younger version. Austin is another actor rightly making a name for himself. He has played many characters with multiple layers to them, from his roles in This Is Us, Euphoria, to Dash and Lily, and would make a great Lupin.

James Potter – Tom Holland

Tom Holland fancasted as James Potter Harry Potter

Although not an obvious choice for James, Tom Holland could be just who fans need to see as the pretty-boy, mischievous wizard they were told about in the films. Not only has Tom proved to be a talented actor, but he also fits the appearance.

Fans have already seen Tom Holland play the awkward, sarcastic Peter Parker in the Spider-Man movies, and he could bring that same energy to the character, James Potter. The films tell us James is a fun-loving jokester, leading him to create the Marauder’s map with his friends and play other jokes. He also appears to be a bit of a bad boy and a little too bold as he also tends to bully Snape. Tom would do a great job bringing that sarcastic and spirited character to life.
