A northbound Vauxhall Vivaro van collided with a Toyota Auris on February 12.

The fatal crash happened at around 4.55pm on the A1620 bypass between Calverley and Rodley.

Because of this, the four-month-old baby was left fighting for his life.

He was then rushed to the hospital, where he tragically died on Wednesday.

Two women from Toyota and a man from Vivaro were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The collision caused a huge fireball in the middle of the road.

Highway workers had to completely shut down the area while emergency services dealt with the crash.

A 54-year-old man who was driving a Vivaro was arrested on suspicion of causing serious bodily injury by dangerous driving.

He was released on bail yesterday pending an investigation.

Police officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

West Yorkshire Police said: “Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has footage to assist this investigation, is asked to contact the Major Collision Investigation Team on 101.”

Residents living nearby claim the road is dangerous – with few police officers.

Taking to social media, a devastated user said: “My heart goes out to this boy’s family.

“I live near here and bad driving and running red lights is a daily occurrence. When are you going to patrol because we never see the police patrolling.”

Another added: “I travel that road regularly, looks like the van was in the wrong lane. Terrible for everyone involved.”
