Euphoria fans, rejoice!
After rumors of the cancellation spread online, a representative for HBO put those stories to rest, saying The Independent in a statement that the hit series is still set to go into production next year.
“Euphoria goes into production in 2025,” a representative told the British publication. “Nothing has changed.”
Representatives for HBO and the series did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Earlier this year, Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of programming and head of HBO’s drama series and movies, released a statement saying the series would begin production in January 2025.
“We couldn’t be happier with our creative partnership with [creator] Alone [Levinson] and this incredible cast,” Orsi said in a July statement. “We are looking forward to bringing this new season Euphoria into life for the fans.”
Euphoriawhich was renewed for a third season in February 2022, was originally scheduled to begin filming in the spring or early summer of 2024, but was delayed due to writer and actor strikes, as well as script delays.
The hit drama centers on Rue Bennett (Zendaya) and her struggles with sobriety, as well as her friends and classmates, played by Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Hunter Schafer and the late Angus Cloud.

The second season ended with the heartbreaking death of Ashtray (Javon Walton). A standoff with police – and an apparent fatal shooting – also left the fate of Fez (Oblaka) uncertain.
The question of Rue’s sobriety was also left unanswered. The season ended with her character’s voice saying, “I stayed clean until the end of the school year. I wish I could say I made up my mind. In a way, it was just easier. I don’t know if this feeling will last forever, but I’m trying.”

off screen, Euphoria The cast was left reeling – and their characters’ fates hanging in the balance – when Cloud died unexpectedly at the age of 25 in August 2023 after an accidental drug overdose.
The future of another key character, Kat Hernandez (Barbie Ferreira), is also unknown, as the actress announced her departure from the series with “very teary eyes” on social media months after the third season was announced.

In addition to Cloud’s sudden death and Ferreira’s departure, fans have been speculating about the fate of other popular characters, especially as stars like Elordi and Sweeney have reached new levels of fame.
Earlier this year, Sweeney told PEOPLE that she was “very excited to return” to her character, Cassandra “Cassie” Howard. “She is definitely one of the most special characters for me and I love mine Euphoria family, so I’m looking forward to that.”
Euphoria Seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on Max, and HBO has yet to announce a premiere date for Season 3.
