Heather Gay admitted that she had more confidence before she turned to Ozempic for weight loss.

The The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star, 50, with whom he recently spoke ABC News‘ Deborah Roberts and opened up about her body positivity journey after taking Ozempic, an FDA-approved prescription drug for people with type 2 diabetes.

It’s one of the brand names for semaglutide — also known as Wegovy — which works in the brain to make you feel full and is the latest Hollywood weight-loss trend.

Gay discussed her past comments about people making her feel like she “sold out” on her weight loss method, or like she “gave up the flag” of being a “relatable” figure for her body image journey.

“I never realized how much my weight affected the way people treated me,” she told Roberts. “But I loved all versions of myself, and I feel like body positivity wasn’t a lie for me. It changed my life. It allowed me to be on TV, it gave me this opportunity.”

The Bravo star said everyone kept telling her to change her intro on RHOSLC because she was “much heavier” back then.

“I look at those pictures of myself and those episodes and I think, I love that girl,” she added. “That girl was braver and stronger and more confident with the extra weight than I was after the medication.”

Gay noted that she no longer takes Ozempic for weight loss, but “will if needed.” The reality star also addressed the cover of her new memoir, Good Time Girladmitting that her decision to pose with her shirt up was not her “celebration” of her body.

“My whole life I’ve been apologizing for my body … and I’d rather just be body neutral,” she said. “I like myself heavy. I love myself now. It’s a journey and it changed the way I saw who I was.”

Gay first revealed to PEOPLE that she was “on the Ozempic train” in November 2023.

“You lose five kilos, people are nicer to you,” she said then. “I don’t know why. That’s just the way the world works and it makes me sad for women. But I’m happy to be five times smaller.”

“I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves and it’s hard,” she told PEOPLE. “I have three daughters that I love and I don’t want them to have my genetics or have to struggle with society’s standards of beauty. I just wish there was a solution for all of us. But I feel like I’m coming into my own a little bit and I think the shine could come from that as well. But I will give credit to all medical interventions. That’s my business.”
