Then they dragged him along the ground holding on for dear life
He then tries to open the door but the thief speeds off – leaving the owner running frantically alongside the van.
Shocking footage shows him desperately clinging to life as his bare legs and feet are dragged across the ground.
He is eventually forced to let go as the van accelerates – causing him to fall and roll across the road.
At one point he comes agonizingly close to being crushed under the van’s wheels, but luckily moves away in time.
His partner shared the harrowing footage on Facebook – including a brief shot of the man in hospital with bandages on his legs.
She said the brand new white Renault Trafic was taken on Tuesday morning.
The woman added: “My partner was dragged all the way to the end of Smalldale Road holding on to the van to try and get back and now he’s injured and has to be treated by burn specialists because of his body.”
She continued: “Absolutely sickening to see how close the van came to running over his head in the second video!! Keep sending the CCTV footage if you have any. Every little bit of evidence helps!!”
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed they have launched an investigation into the horror.
A spokesman said: “At 7am on Tuesday (September 10) we received reports of a vehicle being stolen in Sheffield.
“A stolen van was reported parked on Smalldale Road.
“It is believed that a person wearing black clothes and a black balaclava entered the vehicle and drove away.
“The investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
Anyone with any information can call the police on 101 under number 14/162424/24.
