Sabrina Carpenter Wears Madonna's Sparkly 1991 Oscars Gown for Bombshell 2024 MTV VMAs Moment

She is a star!

Sabrina Carpenter hit the red carpet at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on September 11 in her signature glow — and in a very famous dress! The 25-year-old “Espressa” singer, who was nominated for as many as six awards at this year’s show, pulled out all the stops with her appearance and pulled out a dress from the archives.

Carpenter wore a sparkly vintage Bob Mackie dress that Madonna previously wore to the 1991 Oscars. The gorgeous white sweetheart neckline dress featured silver detailing around the top that perfectly set off her delicate De Beers necklace (she also wore earrings and a ring from the brand). Her bombshell blonde hair was styled into voluminous curls by Evanie Frausto, giving her Madonna vibes and evoking a bit of Marilyn Monroe at the same time.

Her glamorous look was glam and gorgeous with bright red lips, courtesy of makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez. Gonzalez used Velor lashes to achieve a “dreamy pinup” look for Carpenter for the night, she said in a press release.

At the awards, held at New York’s UBS Arena, Carpenter was nominated for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for “Espresso,” Best Pop, Best Direction for “Please Please Please,” Best Editing for “Espresso.” ” and Best Art Direction for “Please Please Please.” Carpenter is also on deck to perform at the showcase.

Sabrina Carpenter doesn’t want to talk about her relationships: ‘I understand why people are interested’

At the 2023 gala, where Carpenter performed during the pre-show, she stepped onto the pink carpet in an ethereal Vera Wang Haute custom-made tulle gown with a crystal-encrusted corset.

She wore her blonde hair slicked back with a few tendrils down and accessorized with some jewels and metallic shoes.

Carpenter is on top of the world right now. She just released her latest album Short and sweet in August, where fans can find her VMA-nominated songs. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in August, she said the album title wasn’t just about her height.

“I called Short and sweet for several reasons. It’s not because I’m vertically challenged,” Carpenter said. “I’ve been thinking about some of those relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had, and they affected me the most.”

Some of the people closest to Carpenter have been outspoken in their praise of the album, including her love interest Barry Keoghan – who praised it on Instagram in August – and bestie Joey King.

King told PEOPLE during New York Fashion Week that “Don’t Smile” is really just “perfect,” but she changes which song is her favorite every day.
