House of the Dragon Cast Reveals the Costar That Causes Them to Break Out in Laughter: ‘It’s Unbearable to Work with Him’

The house of the dragon it may be a drama, but there are plenty of laughs on the set of a fantastic series.

During a New York Comic Con panel with cast members Matt Smith, Fabien Frankel and Tom Glynn-Carney, the cast said that Rhys Ifans, who portrays Otto Hightower, is the cast member most likely to not know what’s going on — or break character the most — causing hilarity.

“He would know exactly what was going on with his character, but he would say, ‘I have no idea what’s going on, I have no idea what’s going on today,'” Frankel, 30, said during an Oct. 20 conversation moderated by Josh Horowitz.

Smith, 41, meanwhile, called Ifans, 57, “the funniest man on the planet ever,” and Frankel added, “He’s actually unbearable to work with. Like, every day is a struggle to try to do something professional,”

“I feel like I can literally feel HBO behind the monitor saying, like, ‘Jesus Christ, Rhys.’ Fabian and Olivia Cook in a fucking scene together. Good luck with this man,” he continued.

The house of the dragon said showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal Diversity in August that fans can expect Ifans’ character to have an important role in the series’ next installment, after Season 2 ended with the former Hand of the King seemingly getting closure.

“We were thrilled to have Rhys re-enter the story, and I’ll just say that Otto Hightower’s story isn’t over yet,” Condal said.

The house of the dragon premiered in August 2022, with a second season following in June 2024.

According to Diversitythe series will continue in production for Season 3 in 2025 and is set to end after a total of four seasons.
