Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes kept their elementary naming tradition alive with the birth of their newborn daughter on January 12th.
The current Kansas City co-owner and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, both 29, announced on Instagram on Monday, Jan. 13, that they welcomed their third baby a day earlier and named her Golden Raye.
The baby girl joins their other two children — daughter Sterling Skye, 3, and son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 2 — who are all either named or nicknamed after types of metal.
Brittany has been open about how the couple has chosen their children’s names in the past. In May 2023, she revealed during a Q&A on Instagram Story that the idea for the themed naming originally came from one of her beloved dogs.
Their dogs, Steel and Silver, also follow this naming system.
“I got Steel in college and named him that,” she explained, referring to her older dog. “Then we got our second dog and we wanted to name her Sterling because it was a perfect match for Steel. Then I said no, I want it to be my daughter’s name, so then we came up with Silver to go with Steel.”

After that, according to Brittany, she and her husband still wanted to keep the Mahomes naming tradition alive by adding the moniker to their next child.
“Then to have a boy and he’s Patrick Mahomes III, Bronze was just meant to be and it was perfect,” she added.
In a November 2022 press conference, Patrick also said that his brother, Jackson Mahomes, was the one who suggested Bronze as his nickname.
“My brother Jackson, whenever we were trying to find something that was a little unique and different, he said, ‘What about bronze? It goes perfectly with Sterling,'” Patrick told reporters in November 2022, according to TMZ. “So we went with it.”
“It works well,” he added. “Now he can have his thing where he’s not Patrick, he’s Bronze, even though he’s Patrick. And, Sterling and Bronze can have that connection moving forward.”

In a June 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Brittany also shared that her puppy Steel was named after the Pittsburgh Steelers — and that Patrick gave him to Brittany during her freshman year of college at the University of Texas at Tyler.
“I actually got Steel when I was in college. Patrick bought it for me for Valentine’s Day when I was a junior,” Brittany said at the time. “I was actually a Steelers fan and that’s how I got the name Steel, so it’s a great story.”
