July Summer Update Animal Crossing: New Horizons Introducing a collection of undersea creatures that players can capture, collect, and sell, including the Gigas Giant Clam. This creature is one of the largest of the new group and has the highest bell value per creature. Big, fast, and worth up to 15,000 bells each, players will want to find and catch as many Gigas as possible.
When the Gigas Giant Clam is nearby, the player will notice a giant shadow underwater. They need to equip diving and snorkeling gear. However, they must be careful not to approach too quickly and scare it away. Like other agile sea creatures, it can take some time (and a few clams to be lost) to perfect the technique of catching it. Here’s how to catch Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to find Gigas in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
As with fish and other sea creatures, players have a higher chance of finding Giant Clams Gigas at certain times of the year. Players in the northern hemisphere will be able to find it between July and September of this year. Next year and every year after that, it will be available from May to September.
Gigas clams can be found throughout the day. As it moves, players will begin to recognize it by its large shadow and long lungs. It is the largest deep-sea creature and easier to spot than others. However, it is sometimes confused with creatures that move quickly in the dark like snow crabs.
When players think they’ve seen it, they’ll want to jump into the water. Like other sea creatures, the player will see bubbles nearby.
How to catch Gigas in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Many players make the mistake of first sneaking into a fast creature and trying to chase it. Instead, they’ll want to approach agile creatures, such as the Gigas Giant Clam, as slowly as the game allows, the same way they approach spooky bugs. To do this, use only the analog stick to move and do not press any other buttons.
The player should get as close to the bubble as possible. They will then need to press the Y key to sneak around the giant shadow. This will prevent it from roaming and limit the player having to chase it. When the player reappears, they should have caught the Giant Clams Gigas.
Some players have also had success chasing the Gigas Giant Slug near fences or other obstacles, but they need to swim fast and keep pushing it into those obstacles. Players are likely to lose some when using this method, so they should be careful.
After donating one to the museum, the player must keep an eye on Big Shadow and dive for as many Gigas Clams as possible to get as many bells.
