How to Watch A Quiet Place Movies in Order, Including the New Prequel

Peaceful place takes fans back to the very beginning.

With a new prequel movie A Quiet Place: Day One starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn, out June 28, viewers will finally learn more about how extraterrestrial creatures with ultrasonic hearing invaded Earth.

The first film, directed and written by John Krasinski, follows a married couple played by Krasinski and his real-life wife Emily Blunt as they struggle to raise their children in a post-apocalyptic world.

The 2018 film was a blockbuster and received various award nominations, eventually resulting in a sequel titled Quiet place II. part.

Although the 2020 sequel gave a glimpse of the monster’s arrival through flashbacks, the upcoming prequel will delve more into the franchise’s backstory.

A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)

Published on June 28, 2024. A Quiet Place: Day One serves as a prequel to the original franchise. Set in New York, the film follows Lupita Nyong’o’s character Sam during the early stages of an alien invasion. Along the way, he teams up with a number of other characters, including a man named Eric, whom he plays Stranger Things alum Joseph Quinn.

Although the film is a spinoff, it includes some subtle ties to the original films, including the character of Djimon Hounsou — first seen in Quiet place II. part simply as the Man on the Island, who serves as the leader of a group of survivors living on the island. (Director Michael Sarnoski said of bringing Hounsou’s character back for the latest film, “I thought it would be fun to bring in a little connection to A Quiet Place Part II, but I also wanted to use Henri’s character to kind of stand for what Sam’s story could have been, it was the story of this family man who wanted to escape from the city.”)

Peaceful place the first begins with the Abbott family (parents Lee and Evelyn, their sons Beau and Marcus, and daughter Regan, who is deaf) living on an isolated farm in upstate New York. One day they have to travel to the city to get medicine, and then their youngest son Beau is killed by one of the alien creatures.

The rest of the story takes place about a year after his death. According to a calendar snapshot that marks October 3, 2021 as the 473rd day of the alien invasion, the first alien attack is assumed to have begun in June 2020.

The film revolves around the Abbott family as they deal with the loss of their son as well as the impending arrival of their newborn child, all while trying to keep everyone in the family quiet so the monsters don’t find them out.

Quiet place II. part (2020)

The second film largely follows the events of the first. The patriarch of the Abbott family, Lee, was tragically killed while trying to save his children. With their home destroyed by the events of the first film, the rest of the family sets out to find survivors.

Eventually they come into contact with a group of people on the island, who discover that they were able to live peacefully after learning that the aliens can’t swim. Through a series of events, the family is able to uncover more information about the aliens’ weaknesses, including the use of high-frequency audio feedback from Reagan’s cochlear implant as a weapon.
