Colson confirmed that he was told he would be axed from the show after learning the news in the fall of 2024.
The actor wrote on Instagram: “Last autumn I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles would end in 2025.
“I have loved every second of my 14 years as a resident of the world’s greatest street. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in and around Coronation Street.
“I’ve learned almost everything about life from the people who call it home.
“I’m excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is the end of the beginning.
“I honestly can’t wait to see what chapter two has in store for me.”
Craig’s on-screen mother, Beth Tinker, also left the series in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out of the role.
He is the latest in a long list of stars to leave the program in recent months.
The Sun revealed on Sunday that Sue Cleaver had left the show after 25 years as Eileen Grimshaw.
Sue and Colson’s departures follow that of Helen Worth as Gail Platt after 50 years.
Coronation Street fans were shocked to see the character’s ‘twin brother’ in ITV scenes
As well as appearing on the cobbles of Corrie, Colson took part in the ITV reality show Celebrity Big Brother last year.
He reached the final of the program – finishing just short of Strictly star Nikita Kuzmin and reality star David Potts.
Corrie is understood to have been hit by a cash crisis with a number of stars axed to free up funds.
The Sun said bosses were unable to guarantee that any of the cast would remain in work beyond the end of the year.
It is understood to have caused panic backstage at the ITV soap, with many actors now wondering if they will be next.
