He achieved the UK’s best Eurovision result in 25 years and topped the charts with his debut album.
But the career of Space Man singer Sam Ryder is not exactly on the upswing because he parted ways with the record company.

I’m told he currently doesn’t have a team behind him after he and Parlophone, who he signed with in 2020 after becoming a viral TikTok star, ended their partnership by mutual consent.
A music insider said: “Sam had a one-album deal with Parlophone and when the deal expired, he and the label decided it was best to go our separate ways.
“He is eager to go in a new musical direction, so he will try something new next time.
“It was an amicable split, and he and the record company remained on excellent terms.
“They have achieved great things during their partnership, particularly with the revival of Eurovision, and Sam feels positive about what’s next.”
He came second at Eurovision last year, losing out to Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra amid the Russian invasion, and then performed at the 2023 grand final in Liverpool in May.
In between, he performed at Wembley Stadium with Queen, collaborated with David Guetta and Sigal on the album Living Without You and reached number one with his album There’s Nothing But Space, Man!.
Speaking to Bizarre last December, he insisted that Eurovision had done wonders for his career and encouraged other acts to follow suit.
Asked about who could represent the UK, he said: “The UK has such a diverse pool of talent and all I can hope is that what happened this year has encouraged more people from those different genres and backgrounds to think, ‘Eurovision not a career killer’.”
Things are slightly better for last year’s winners, Italian rock band Maneskin, who continued their sold-out arena tour today with their new single Honey (Are U Coming?).
But it sounds like Sam isn’t resting on his laurels and is really going in a completely different direction for his new music.
He posted a photo with British rapper Aitch with the caption: “Love working with this legend.”
A collaboration between the two was not on my bingo card for 2023.
But given that he’s so popular with young fans, maybe encouraging Aitch to enter Eurovision isn’t a bad idea.
DOJA JE VMA TOP KAT
DOJA Cat is the latest star confirmed to perform at the MTV VMAs in New York later this month.
The rapper, who dropped fierce new single Demon today, will join Demi Lovato and Maneskin, who have already been announced to perform at the star-studded ceremony.
Shakira will also take to the stage after accepting the prestigious Video Vanguard award ahead of the September 12 event.
But if Doja’s new song is anything to go by, she reckons it should be the one to get the top gongs of the night.
On the Demon, he boasts: “I’m on my way to bigger things, I just bought a limousine.” You live like me in your dreams.” Later he boasts: “I want a queen. I would never let you into my VIP.”
Doja is a lot of things, but being modest is clearly not one of them.
However, today she could score her first UK No.1 with the hit Paint The Town Red.
The track, which features Walk On By Dionne Warwick, has been battling for the top spot with Olivia Rodrigo’s Vampire for the entire week.
The champion will be announced on Radio 1’s Top List show shortly after 5:30 p.m.
Agnetha teases at the ABBA reunion
WHEN ABBA reunited for the UK premiere of their ABBA Voyage digital show last year, it was to be the last time they were seen together.
But now Agnetha Faltski has given hope that all four members will attend Eurovision in their native Sweden next May – the 50th anniversary of their victory in the contest with Waterloo.

Her bandmate and ex-husband Bjorn Ulvaeus had previously rejected the idea of them appearing at the event.
However, as she has relaunched her solo career, Agnetha has teased that something is up.
Asked about any plans to perform with her fellow legends at Eurovision, Agnetha – who has been in a group with Bjorn, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – said: “You never know about ABBA and when we will. . .
“Well, I won’t say anything about it. I’d rather be silent.”
The star is back with a surprisingly lively and sparkling solo single called Where Do We Go From Here?, which will feature on her A+ album, which is out next month. It is a reimagined version of her 2013 album A.
And it should impress her grandchildren, who struggled to make sense of ABBA’s incredible success when they attended the London premiere of ABBA: Voyage in May 2022.
She told Radio 2’s Zoe Ball: “They’re really getting it now. Some of them were with us at the premiere in London and they cried, really: ‘Oh Grandma?!’ They had no idea what I was doing.”
AWARD PERFORMERS
JESSIE Ware, Raye and J Hus are among the acts confirmed to perform at next week’s Mercury Prize ceremony.
Ten of the 12 nominees for the main music award will take to the Eventim Apollo stage in London.
Arctic Monkeys and Fred Again will miss the ceremony as they are on tour, but fellow nominees Ezra Collective, Jockstrap, Lankum, Loyle Carner, Olivia Dean, Shygirl and Young Fathers will all be there.
The show, hosted by Lauren Laverne, will be broadcast live on BBC Four from 9pm on Thursday.
STINK OUT LOUD
I FIRST discovered that Ed Sheeran had landed the lead role in Adam Deacon’s new film Sumotherhood seven months ago.
And now a hilarious new trailer for the film, out on November 23, features Ed playing a homeless drug addict in a rather comical Cockney accent.

Ed can be seen sticking his head through the open car window as he shouts: “Ow, ow, what are you talking about?”
He was also shown singing part of his 2014 hit Thinking Out Loud, but changing the lyrics to sing: “When your balls don’t smell like they used to”, prompting an onlooker to shout: “Can you shut the f**k up? I’m trying to watch Gogglebox.”
The singer appears in the film alongside a host of other famous faces, including Jennifer Saunders and Babatunde Aleshe – who play the coppersmiths – and Denise Van Outen and Tamzin Outhwaite, who alternate as medical staff.
Former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn also has a cameo and manages to say the words “scumbag” without looking like an even bigger jerk than he already is.
Adam, who created the film, has also got a star-studded line-up of musicians to contribute to the soundtrack, with Idris Elba, Skepta, Stefflon Don and Tion Wayne joining Ed for the track.
It won’t save Hollywood’s movie crisis, but Sumotherhood looks like it could be a real good laugh.
LOUIS FAN HANDLED AT EXHIBITION
BEING attacked by fans is nothing new for Louis Tomlinson, but losing his vest and having to make sure he intervened couldn’t have been comfortable.
The former One Direction singer was nearly dragged over a barricade by a crowd of over-excited fans after he leaned into the crowd during his performance in Hamburg on Tuesday.
The star could have lost a lot more than his peak, but luckily for him, security was on hand to literally bring him back to safety.
Louis didn’t look too happy after the incident and was seen shouting at the crowd before returning to the stage and going for a much needed time out.
The performance in Germany kicked off the European leg of his Faith In The Future world tour, which continues in the UK in November.

KIM Petras looked furry casual in these knee-high boots, which contrasted with the rest of her skimpy outfit for the seaside shoot.
The sassy singer posed in a bikini and quirky, colorful footwear during some well-earned time off following the release of her debut album Feed The Beast.
Later this month, they will embark on a tour for the record across North America, before coming to the UK in February, playing in Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and London.
Kim also teased that she hopes to return to the studio with Sam Smith following the global success of their No1 Unholy.
THE FILM IS NOT SWIFT FOR BRITISH AMERICAN
TAYLOR SWIFT has announced that the new film of her Eras tour is coming to cinemas, but not for us Brits.
The Eras Tour star’s concert film will hit screens in the US, Canada and Mexico – where she has already performed – on October 13.
He is not expected to release it here until he finishes his European meetings.
The film is set to rake in millions at the box office, following massive ticket sales for the live shows.
But her decision to delay the UK release will anger some fans, especially those who were unable to secure tickets to the show.
There’s a nine-month wait before the tour hits these shores, playing in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, London and Dublin.
Given that her show sold out in minutes, cinema tickets will soon be up for grabs when the film reaches us.
