Hugh Jackman stepped out in public for a walk in New York a day after he and wife Deborra-lee Jackman announced they were separating by mutual consent.

The photos come a day after the couple shared the news that they were separating after 27 years of marriage. “We have been blessed to share nearly 3 decades together as husband and wife in a beautiful, loving marriage,” they said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to continue our personal growth.”

The statement continued: “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We embrace this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family goes through this transition in all of our lives.”
Deborra-lee was seen without her wedding ring days before the announcement, according to photos he posted Party tonight. The actress, 67, was seen getting into a car in New York on Tuesday.

The Jackmans, who have two children – Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18 – originally met on the set of the Australian TV series Corelli 1995, before they tied the knot a year later on April 11, 1996.

The actor previously opened up to PEOPLE about his marriage, saying that one of the reasons he loves his and Deborra-lee’s relationship so much is because they started their relationship before Wolverine the star became famous.
“One of the great successes of my career, it started late, but Deb and I were already together, a team, madly in love, like literally before it all happened,” he said. “We can kind of see all the ups and downs for what they are. Our priority is family and we are there for each other no matter what.”
He added: “Beneath the surface, where it’s real, and where it’s calm and where it’s deep, that’s the love I have with Deb.”
