Hunter Biden’s 5 Children: All About His Son and Daughters

President Joe Biden’s second son, Hunter Biden, is a father of five himself.

Hunter welcomed his first three children with ex-wife Kathleen Buhle and his youngest son, Beau Biden Jr., with his current wife, Melissa Cohen. He also had a daughter, Navy Roberts, in 2018 with an Arkansas woman named Lunden Roberts — but Navy’s identity was kept secret for years due to a legal dispute between her parents over paternity and child support.

Hunter has come under fire for a number of controversies that have come to light during his father’s presidential run, including his affair with his late brother’s widow, his early drug use and an investigation into his taxes.

In June 2023, Hunter was indicted on federal misdemeanor charges of failure to pay federal income taxes and a felony count of unlawful possession of a weapon. He pleaded not guilty to tax crimes and was eventually charged with three counts of gun possession. On June 11, 2024, Hunter was convicted of three felonies in his federal gun trial. The charges could warrant up to 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine.

Although Hunter maintains a close relationship with his children, his struggle with addiction has made their relationship strained at times. In an April 2021 interview with CBS News about his memoir, Nice stuffHunter explained how his family organized the intervention for him – and his daughters were also present.

During the confrontation, Hunter said it became so tense that he stormed out of the house until his daughters stopped him. “I tried to go to my car and my girls literally blocked the door and said, ‘Dad, dad, please. You can’t. No, no,'” Hunter recalled.

Here’s everything you need to know about Hunter Biden’s five children.

Hunter’s eldest daughter, Naomi, was born in December 1993. She was named after Hunter’s late younger sister, Naomi, who died when she was one in a car accident that also killed her mother – Joe’s first wife – in 1972.

Despite his legal battles and his poor public image, Naomi came to Hunter’s defense in September 2020 in a Twitter thread shedding some light on his personal life as “a man filled with love, integrity and human struggles.

She detailed how her father worked hard to get into law school and provide for his family and was by his brother Beau’s side, living “out of a suitcase” and sleeping in a chair next to his hospital bed for two months when he became ill with brain cancer.

“The pain he suffered would have been enough to make a lesser man give up on life all together,” she wrote. “But despite the best efforts of a cruel few to destroy a private man, he is sober, happy and at peace as he is today because as long as his family needs him, he has not lost his purpose.”

Naomi attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in international relations before graduating from Columbia Law School in 2020. According to her LinkedIn, she works as an associate attorney at Arnold & Porter.

The young lawyer grew up in Washington, DC, and still lives there with her husband Peter Neal. Naomi met Neal in 2018 through a mutual friend, and the couple married on the South Lawn of the White House — the first wedding held there in nine years — on November 19, 2022. Naomi’s mother and father walked her down the aisle.

“Peter and I are endlessly grateful to my Nana and Dad for the opportunity to celebrate our wedding at the White House,” she said on Twitter in April 2022.

On June 3, 2024, Neal, who is also an attorney, supported Hunter on the first day of his federal trial. He was seen sharing notes with Naomi’s father’s defense team. Days later, Naomi testified and answered questions about Hunter’s battle with addiction.

Finnegan Biden, 23

Hunter’s second child with Buhle was born in 2000. She was named after Joe’s mother, Catherine Eugenia Finnegan — her great-grandmother — who died in 2010.

Finnegan continued the family legacy at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2021 with a degree in history and a concentration in American studies. She also graduated in art history. While a student, Finnegan was part of a group of environmental activists and spearheaded the push to extend the pass/fail deadline for classes in April 2020 by circulating a petition she created.

“I think it’s amazing the way we’ve come together as a student body even in times of so much separation and loneliness for so many people,” she told 34th Street Magazine. “So I hope there’s some comfort in the fact that the faculty heard us and recognized our voices because we really came together and supported each other.”

Finnegan is no stranger to traveling the world with her grandfather on political visits to countries such as China and Germany, and in May 2023 she added Britain to her list. Finnegan joined her grandmother while the two were visiting London for the coronation of King Charles.

Hunter’s third and final daughter with Buhle was born in 2001. She grew up in Washington, DC like her sisters and attended Sidwell Friends School alongside former President Barack Obama’s daughter Sasha during her grandfather’s term as Vice President from 2009 to 2017.

Obama has spoken in the past about how Sasha and Maisy were “best friends” growing up and even played on the same basketball team in fourth grade, which Obama coached himself.

“Maisy was like the LeBron of the league,” Obama said on Dax Shepard Armchair expert. “She dominated. She was great, you know, and we went undefeated. The Vipers ruled.”

While some of the parents on the opposing team objected to the president leading the children’s basketball team, Maisy said the team owes its success to its skill, not its coach. “There’s a lot of teams that said, ‘This isn’t fair, I can’t have the president as a coach,’ but I mean, we won,” Maisy said on TODAY broadcast in January 2021.

Maisy followed in her older sisters’ footsteps and attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2023. Joe attended the ceremony along with Hunter, Jill and Joe’s youngest child, Ashley. The Biden family enjoyed lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant after the happy occasion, according to AP News.

Navy Roberts, 6

In November 2019, it was revealed that Hunter secretly fathered a child with an Arkansas woman named Lunden Roberts in August 2018.

Roberts sued Hunter for a paternity test and child support, claiming they were in a relationship and that he fathered her child – allegations he denied. A paternity test eventually showed that he was the father.

In 2023, Hunter and Roberts’ child was revealed to be a daughter named Navy Joan Roberts. Soon after, Republicans began criticizing President Joe Biden for previously praising his “six grandchildren,” claiming he did not recognize the Navy.

In a July 2023 statement exclusively to PEOPLE, President Biden dismissed the criticism, saying, “Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in their daughter’s best interest, protecting her privacy as much as possible going forward. This is not a political issue, it is a family matter. Jill and I want only what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.”

A source familiar with the situation told PEOPLE that the recently resolved child support dispute between Hunter and Roberts has dictated how the relationship has played out so far.

“You have to remember that up until just a few weeks ago, there was some pretty contentious legal action going on between Navy’s parents. As grandparents, the Bidens are following Hunter’s lead,” the source said, adding, “They are — and have been giving — Hunter and Lunden space and time to figure things out.”

The source went on to say that the situation is a family issue.

“Thousands of families have faced similar circumstances, dealing with it in private, against the spotlight,” a source told PEOPLE. “At the center is a 4-year-old girl and everyone wants what’s best for her, including all her grandparents.”

A month after reports revealed that Hunter had split from his brother’s widow, he secretly married South African-born Melissa Cohen in May 2019. The two welcomed their son together on March 28, 2020.

Beau Biden Jr. he was named after Hunter’s late older brother, Beau. The name was confirmed when Joe’s transition officials announced that “Beau Biden” would attend his inauguration in January 2021.

Beau’s older sisters have been loving him for years, and his oldest sister posted a sweet birthday tribute for his 2nd birthday in March 2022. “BB IS 2 TODAY !!!!!!! HBD TO THE LOML 💓,” Naomi wrote in the caption of his Instagram post, which featured a carousel of photos of the youngest Biden in a variety of silly outfits, including a Chewbacca costume.

On TikTok in January 2023, Maisy sang and danced with her little brother while he chewed on food. “That’s my boy,” she captioned the video.
