Till seventh grade, she attended Utpal Shanghvi School and later St Columba’s School in Mumbai. Growing up, she was a skating champion at the state and national levels. One day when she was 11, she sprained her ankle while skating, and she had to take a year-long hiatus from the sport. During this time, on the advice of her father, she tried cricket. At that time, Gujarat Noon, a news daily in Mumbai, organized a recreational cricket match for the housing society. Gala’s society also sent a team, of which Hurley was a member. She excelled in those games. It was then that her father suggested she take up cricket. Tanmay sought advice from his relative and friend Vishal Kariya as he had some cricketing credentials. They decided to hire a personal trainer for her. Meanwhile, Hurley began playing pick-up ball at a private court owned by Kariya. One day, her uncle met junior cricket coach Ivan Rodriguez in a sports store and told him about Hurley. Ivan Rodriguez is the father of Indian cricketer Jemima Rodriguez, an all-rounder for the Mumbai women’s cricket team. Thereafter, she began training with Ivan Rodriguez at the Negev Cricket Academy in Juhu, using the facilities of a private ground owned by Karia. Initially, she was a batsman but her coach noticed her ability to become a fast bowler. At school, she excelled in inter-school competitions. Her performance in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) tournament caught the attention of the Mumbai cricket selectors. In the semifinals of the MSSA tournament, she scored a hat trick with the ball, and then quickly scored more than 30 crucial points in the finals. At the age of 13, she performed well in the Late Arjun Madhvi Women’s Trophy match in Thane and was subsequently selected for the Mumbai under-19 women’s team. Later, she honed her skills under the guidance of Prashant Shetty at the MIG Cricket Club in Bandra. Her strength and conditioning and defensive coaches are Venancio D’souza and Sachin Jagtap. That year, she was selected for the Mumbai U-19 women’s team. She was selected for the NCA’s 2022 Under-19 (Women’s) training camp.
