Husband Calling Wife's 'Fridgescaping' Hobby 'Stupid' Sparks Debate: 'It’s Made the Fridge Very Uninviting'

A husband sparked an online debate after criticizing his wife’s decision to decorate the inside of their fridge.

In a post on Reddit’s Am I the Ass—- forum, the man described that his wife had recently “started ‘refrigerator decorating'” — a trend that has become popular on the Internet and focuses on redecorating the interior of refrigerators.

“She started decorating our fridge and it really got on my nerves,” the Reddit user wrote, noting that his wife would “put flowers in the fridge, in vases, in front of the food so you have to move things just to get to the food.”

He added that “she used to put all our food in fancy baskets, jars and similar things”.

The Reddit user then wrote that he “didn’t care at first” about his wife’s decorating decision, “because I don’t need to use the fridge much anyway, I don’t cook much.”

Still, he continued, “But she gets too meticulous with it and adds too much decor. It makes the fridge very unattractive to me. She gets upset when I take something out of the fridge and don’t put it back perfectly.”

The husband added that his wife “still takes it as a personal insult and acts like I did something to intentionally hurt her, which I didn’t.”

“I just think it’s unnecessary to maintain such an organized fridge,” he explained further. “Before she started this, it took me 30 seconds to quickly grab something from the fridge, and now it’s a pain.”

The man said the couple’s situation with the fridge changed recently when his wife “confronted” him and accused him of leaving the fridge in a “mess” after grabbing leftover food.

“I explained how stupid that hobby is to me, and she can decorate other things as well, it doesn’t have to be a refrigerator. It bothers me when I want to eat quickly, when I come home from work hungry and tired and want a quick bite,” he said.

Noting that his wife’s fridge hobby was “frustrating”, the man said he spoke to the couple’s son, who he said also admitted he found the fridge’s organization “annoying” – something he relayed to his wife.

“She didn’t fight after that and removed all the decorations from the fridge, which I must admit was a relief. But she also acted very distant towards me and just wasn’t herself, it was a weird intimacy,” the man concluded, before a social forum asked if he was wrong.

In the comments section of the Reddit post, many expressed that they didn’t believe the way the husband told his wife was right, even though they understood his point.

“I mean, was it nice to call something stupid that she put time and effort into? Probably not,” one user wrote, while another added: “You completely belittled something that brought your wife joy and made her feel creative , not surprised that she Most people don’t like it when you pry into their interests, and most people even less like it when it does [sic] spouse.”

Others, meanwhile, agreed that the pain revolved around communication problems and that it could have been solved if they had been open – and still understood – with each other.

“There are so many better ways you could have approached this and you approached it out of anger and rage and belittling your wife and making her feel like you and your son are against her,” one user said, while another wrote, ” There are ways it was stupid to express your displeasure without telling her something she did.”
