IAS Udit Prakesh to be investigated in 50 Lakh bribery case
Prakesh will be investigated in a bribery case involving Rs 50 lakh he took during his tenure as vice-chairman of the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB), as recommended by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
Saxena requested the same from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as suggested by the CBI over Prakesh taking a bribe of Rs 50 lakh from Executive Engineer PS Meena.
Meena, then working at DAMB, wanted to commute his sentence in two property corruption cases involving his wife and son. Prakesh is known to have helped him solve cases as the then vice president of DAMB.
Later, when a person named JS Sharma filed a complaint in this regard in February 2020, an investigation was conducted on both the property cases.
In the first case, officers submitted a report in January 2020, recommending “major punishment/dismissal” against Meena as per CVC guidelines. Prakesh hastily condemned Meena for this.
In another case, involving Meena’s wife, Prakesh did not conduct any inquiry into the matter and ordered a “reprimand” against Meena, concluding that both the property cases were the same.
CBI has also taken note of these two warrants issued by Prakesh and now Saxena has recommended these two cases of corruption (bribery and issuance of conviction warrant) to MHA and requested to take necessary action regarding the same against Prakesh. He also authorized the Delhi Chief Secretary to save the “punitive censorship” case against Meena.
