Ice-T Reveals How His Tour Bus Has Changed as He's Aged: 'Now It Smells Like Bengay' (Exclusive)

Ice-T is hitting the road this summer.

The rapper, 66, is on tour with his band Body Count in Europe through July, and while promoting his campaign with Raising Cane’s for National Iced Tea Day, he tells PEOPLE that bringing his talents overseas is a lot different than it used to be. .

“My tour bus used to smell like weed, condoms and alcohol. Now it smells like Bengay and potpourri,” he says with a laugh.

Ice-T formed Body Count in the early ’90s, and kept the group alive even while playing Det. Fin Tutuola na Law and order: SVU for the last 25 seasons alongside star Mariska Hargitay.

WITH ALL on hiatus from recording until mid-July, Ice-T can focus on his international tour, and when asked if his family will be along for the ride, he says a resounding yes.

“Everyone is going. We have two tourist buses. We have a family bus, with the wives and children of all the guys. Our front bus is driven by women. Then we have the prison bus, which has all the protests and all the guys who are alone. It’s a bad bus,” he jokes.

Ice-T shares a daughter, Chanel (8), with his wife, Coco Austin, who is 22 years his junior. He also has a daughter, LeTesha Marrow, 48, and a son, Tracy Marrow Jr. (32) from the previous connections.

Marrow Jr. performs with Body Count under the name Lil’ Ice, making today’s tour even more family friendly than it has been in the past for Ice-T.

“When you’re young and you’re out there, and you’re basically screwing everything that moves, touring is a whole different animal. When you get old and married, you don’t want to be far from your family. You want your wife out,” he says. “So that’s changing. That’s why I always tell people, if you meet a new band, stay away!”

So, while he warns today’s acts to stay away from up-and-coming bands, Ice-T says older bands – including Body Count – are more “downbeat”.

“At the end of the play we go to our hotel rooms, [it’s] quiet, everything. The young guys are out [because] they’ve never seen anything like it,” he says. “I ran around the world three or four times by myself, so I don’t have to be there alone anymore.”
