If the circle appears yellow in this eye illusion your brain is lying to you – but ‘zoom cheat’ reveals the true image

A STUNNING optical illusion is confusing people on social media.

TikTok user @Digitalillusionist recently illustrated this in a new 14-second clip.

In the video, the content creator, named Keelan Leyser, showed an image that featured vertical lines and three overlapping circles.

At first glance, the circles appeared purple, cyan, and yellow.

“Look at these three circles, if this circle appears yellow to you then you are seeing an optical illusion,” Keelan said.

He then clarified that statement, telling his viewers that the yellow circle was actually just black and white.

“Take a screenshot and zoom in if you don’t believe me,” he advised his followers.

Since then, the optical illusion has wowed dozens of TikTok users.

“It really is [black and white]”, wrote one user in the comments section.

“I zoomed in, it’s actually black and white,” another person repeated.

“Wow, wow,” a third user simply commented.

How does this work?

This optical illusion works by using colors around a black and white circle.

Basically, the shades of black and white are distorted with lines of different colors running through them.

In this case, since the outer stripes in the background are blue, the brain is tricked into thinking that the inner stripes of the circle must be yellow, not white.

The image is an example of the Munker illusion or the Munker-White illusion.

“This illusion shows how the neighborhood influences color perception. The key word here is assimilation,” Danish professor Michael Bach explained on his website.
