FANS have been left baffled by a picture of a rhythmic gymnast at the Paris Olympics.
Italian Sofia Raffaeli was attending the event when the stunning photo was taken.

The gymnast was in the middle of one of the moves with the ball.
The picture was taken from the air with the ball placed above the chest.
With his neck and head completely obscured, fans wondered “what am I looking at?”
One posted: “Where’s the head and neck???”

A third commented, “What kind of neck?”
Another said: “Wow.”
One even asked, “I’m not fully awake yet, so what am I watching?!”

A bewildered viewer added, “The ball and the body.”
A second glimpse of the moment was also captured, revealing that the ball was covering her head.

Rhythmic gymnastics combines elements of dance and sports gymnastics.
The discipline is for women only and uses four different pieces of equipment including a ball, ribbon, hoop and bat.
The Olympic event is divided into two events, individual and group all-around.
Raffaeli finished first in the qualifying round in the individual event with a score of 139.100.
It’s not the first optical illusion to appear at the Paris Olympics as fans were also stunned during the diving.
