The quarterfinal match between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California on Thursday caused all the buzz!
A swarm of bees descended on the court at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden during the first set as the players were tied 1-1.
Video shared by Tennis Channel on xex-Twitter, showed that the bee attack happened while Alcaraz was lining up to be served.
As the bees approached Alcaraz, the announcer said, “What’s going on here?” After the referee announced that the match “cannot be continued”, everyone started to leave the field.
Another video on X from the ATP Tour was shown by the referee, who later announced that the match was stopped due to a “bee invasion”.
Additional footage from the match online shared by Sky Sports Tennis he showed the spectators in the stands smiling and laughing at the sight of dozens of bees.

According to Desert sunthe crowd was not asked to leave the stadium, only two sections on the upper deck were asked to move.
The media reported that a beekeeper arrived nearly an hour after the announcement to help remove the bees from the camera.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker reacted to the scene xcalling it “unbelievable” and expressing that he had “never seen anything like it in my 39 years of playing tennis.”

Alcaraz’s manager, Albert Molina, spoke to a Spanish podcast El Partidazo de COPE and said the player was “very well” after being stung by a bee on the side of his forehead during the incident.
Cameras follow Alcaraz on and off the field during his 2024 season as part of Netflix’s upcoming project, Alcaraz, documentaries.

“I’m very happy about this experience with Morena Films and Netflix. People will be able to watch everything they don’t see on the tennis court. I think it’s something completely different. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do,” he said. Alcaraz said in a statement included in Netflix’s press release.
The synopsis explains that fans will get a closer look at “a young child prodigy who is revolutionizing the world of sports.”
