Inside Lenny Kravitz's Star-Studded Birthday Bash with Daughter Zoë, Lisa Bonet, Salma Hayek and More (Exclusive)

What better place than the City of Love for Lenny Kravitz to ring in the new decade?

On Friday, May 24, the Grammy-winning rocker — who dropped his long-awaited album Blue electric light same day — celebrated turning 60 with a star-studded birthday party and plaque unveiling held at the iconic Hôtel de Crillon.

According to a source, Kravitz (whose birthday is May 26) kicked off the festivities with dinner followed by an after party, where DJ Ruckus spun tunes as guests danced the night away.

The icon had a “joyous evening surrounded by his closest family and friends,” the source says, adding that the speeches paid tribute to his late mother, actress Roxie Roker.

The most loved ones present were the star’s ex-wife Lisa Bonet, their daughter Zoë Kravitz (her fiance Channing Tatum is currently filming a movie), Naomi Campbell, Salma Hayek and her husband François-Henri Pinault, Pauletta Washington and her son John David, Chris Rock , Laurence Fishburne, Colman Domingo and Marisa Tomei.

The star also had a special guest in attendance, according to a source: his fourth-grade teacher Mrs. Goldberg, who traveled to Paris from New York to join the celebration.

Earlier this year, Kravitz spoke with PEOPLE for the Black History Month cover story, where he reflected on his barrier-breaking career.

“It’s amazing to me that I could be where I am and feel fresh and hungry,” he said of staying inspired.

A few weeks later, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where Zoë and his longtime friend Denzel Washington (who is also currently on location filming the movie) gave funny and heartfelt speeches about the musician.

“It’s an incredible honor to be on this street. It’s an honor to be with all these great people who have done incredible things with their lives,” Kravitz told PEOPLE at the ceremony.

“I never thought about it. Like I said, when I was a kid, I used to walk up and down these streets, but mostly I always thought about where I was going to sleep that night,” he continued. “Having it now feels so surreal and I’m really grateful.”
