THE WORDS written on the bullets that gunned down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in cold blood may have a secret meaning.
The three-word message with the words “deny”, “reject” and “defend” could be a reference to a book criticizing insurance companies, it has emerged.

The words may be a reference to a book published in 2010 by insurance law expert Professor Jay M. Feinman titled: Delay, Denial, Defense: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay a Claim and What You Can Do.
The book boldly criticizes the insurance industry and accuses companies of developing “unethical practices of delaying or denying legitimate claims.”
The book’s description states that it contains “dozens of stories involving major insurers” and aims to advise readers “how to make insurance purchase decisions and pursue disputed claims.”
The suspect opened fire on Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel on Wednesday.
The shooting happened shortly after 6:45 a.m. as he entered New York’s Hilton Midtown.
Terrifying CCTV footage obtained by The US Sun shows the moment a masked, hooded gunman approached the CEO from behind and opened fire multiple times.
Thompson did not have insurance with him at the time despite UnitedHealth Group having an in-house security team.
The suspect was wearing a dark jacket with a mask pulled over his nose and was carrying a gray backpack.
After the murder, the suspect calmly got on a nearby e-bike and sped off towards Central Park.
He was last seen on Central Park Drive, which is just outside the park.
Officers launched a desperate search for the gunman – who remains at large – using drones, helicopters and dogs.
The suspect was caught on video surveillance ordering at a Starbucks on West 56th and 6th avenues just two blocks from the scene before the shooting.
Sources claim he bought coffee, a bottle of water and two PowerBars before the shooting.
He threw the bottle and cup of coffee into the trash can – which the police officers dug out of the trash and now have as evidence.
Investigators also found a phone in an alley near the scene that they believe belonged to the gunman.
They obtained a warrant to search the contents of the phone.
Statement by UnitedHealth Group on Brian Thompson
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed in a brazen attack on December 4 as he was leaving a New York hotel. Parent company UnitedHealth Group released the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the passing of our dear friend and colleague Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare.
“Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him.
“We are working closely with the NYPD and ask for your patience and understanding at this difficult time.
“Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and everyone who was close to him.”
Police have offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that while investigators have not yet determined a motive, the shooting was not a random act of violence.
Thompson had been in New York since Monday, and detectives are investigating how the attacker was able to track his movements.
However, it was known that he would be hosting the event, and he was expected to announce that the company is looking forward to a profitable year in 2025.
Thompson was the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, which is a division of UnitedHealth Group. He was appointed to this position in April 2021.
Prior to becoming CEO, Thompson held various leadership roles within UnitedHealth Group, including positions in finance and operations.
It turned out that Thompson was one of the senior executives at the company being investigated by the Justice Department.
