Isla Fisher talks about a meaningful gift from her husband Sacha Baron Cohen that reminds her of “home.”
In a new essay about a recent trip to Scotland for YOU Magazine, he shared Daily mail, the 47-year-old actress wrote about her return to the country “where my ancestral roots are.” She also revealed it was the first time she had visited since her father Brian Fisher died in January aged 84.
“Over the past months, I’ve learned to deal with the sudden and searing waves of grief that used to be overwhelming,” Fisher wrote. “Now, being here in Scotland makes me closer to him. I hear his voice in the accents of the people I meet. I see his stoic determination in theirs.”
Later in the article, Fisher revealed that Cohen, 52, gave her a sentimental gift after her father’s death.
Sacha bought me a ring so that I could cherish the memory of him every day, she wrote.
“It’s a simple gold band with delicate Scottish heather. It reminds me of home.”

Fisher’s new essay, which touched on the work of the Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire community support program Home-Start, mentions that her father was the chief executive of Save the Children in Western Australia.
Fisher also wrote that her father’s efforts partly inspired her to become a Save the Children ambassador in 2012, and that her family’s sense of humor partly inspired her career – and “maybe my choice of husband”.
“Maybe that’s what I miss most about my dad since he left us: wherever I’ve been in life, he’s been there for me and we’ve felt so connected,” she wrote.
“It’s no exaggeration to say that I talked to him every day and those extensive, sometimes very silly, conversations are what helped me get through the Covid pandemic in Los Angeles – when the world was in quarantine and human connections were lacking.”

Cohen and Fisher, who have been together for more than 20 years, have three children. Last November, Fisher opened Australian Women’s Weekly about why he keeps his family life private.
“I’m nervous to talk about it because I feel that by not having my relationship in the public domain and not talking about how we met or really talking publicly about our marriage, it’s remained something private and valuable to me,” she said. when asked what the secret of their relationship is.
“I don’t know if it’s a secret. But the shared ability to find humor in the harshness of life will always bring connection,” she added. “And anyway, I just think it’s nice to keep some things to yourself.”

In January, after her father’s death, Fisher shared a touching tribute to her followers on Instagram with a picture of her father, whom she called “the greatest father”.
“I’m so lucky to have you as a dad. You were funny, positive and my best friend,” she wrote. “No matter what was going on in my life you always asked me if I was having fun.”
“I know this pain is going to get worse as the days between the last time I saw you increase and it’s very scary. I love you so much. Thank you for being the best father. #poppafish”
