Jackass Star Bam Margera Pleads Guilty to Disorderly Conduct, Accepts Probation with Drug Testing

Previous Fool star Bam Margera pleaded guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct on Wednesday, June 26, and was sentenced to six months of probation, the Associated Press, New York Daily News and ABC 6 reported.

Bam, 44, is accused of assaulting his brother Jess and threatening other family members during a two-week visit to their home in Chester County, Penn., in July 2023.

In addition to six months of probation, Bam will be subject to random drug testing, so if he tests positive for drugs, he could face prison time.

Before Wednesday’s court decision, Margera and his brother appeared at a court hearing last year, where he told the judge he was receiving drug and alcohol treatment.

At the same court hearing, Jess said his brother was “a good guy when he didn’t mess up”. He said Bam had exhibited problematic behavior for the past 20 years, adding that Bam had been awake for days at a time in the home in Pennsylvania. Because of the incident, Jess ruptured his eardrum.

For days after the altercation, Bam was on the run from the police before turning himself in.

He has previously struggled with mental health and substance abuse, and will mark one year of sobriety on August 1st.

After court adjourned Wednesday, Bam told ABC 6, “That’s what it took for me to realize that I’m going to keep drinking benders and end up in situations that are really not good.”

Bam and Jess’ mother, April, was also at the hearing. “He’s doing really well and we want him to move on and get this behind him, really. But we all love him and we just want him to do great,” she said, according to ABC 6. “He’s been through a lot in his life, he’s had a lot approach and had a lot of power and it’s hard to get off that.”

Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said the plea agreement Bam received was common.

“We want to make sure that Bam can get the help that he needs. We want to see that Mr. Margera has accountability on his back so he can achieve sobriety and really be responsible to his family and community,” de Barrena-Sarobe told ABC 6 .

Meanwhile, Bam’s attorney Michael T. van der Veen tells PEOPLE, “This is really a noise violation,” adding, “He really got nothing more than a traffic ticket.”
