Jake Gyllenhaal turned 43 on Tuesday, and he celebrated with a nod to his upcoming film.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Gyllenhaal thanked his followers and fans “for all the birthday wishes” as he shared a photo of himself smiling at a table with a mostly eaten birthday cake, a candle and drinks.
He wore a Patrick Swayze shirt, an ode to the actor who originated the role of John Dalton in 1989. House on the roadwhich Gyllenhaal reprises in the upcoming remake.
The reimagined version will see Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter who “takes a job as a bouncer in a tough building in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that all is not as it seems in this tropical paradise,” according to the synopsis.
On Thursday, fans got their first glimpse of the actor in the film in two clips shown in Prime Video’s 2024 teaser as they teased the film.
In a brief first look, Gyllenhaal’s impressive physique was on display as he stood shirtless in the ring, and in the next clip, a brawl broke out as he slapped three men, dodged another’s punches and dominated a street brawl.

Production of the film began in the Dominican Republic in 2022, in March Southerner star was seen on stage at a UFC event while filming a scene at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Footage of the moment has been shared online and shows Gyllenhaal’s character entering the stadium for the weigh-in, trying to get the crowd excited as he walks on stage. He then removed his “UFC” logo tracksuit, showing off his muscles as he stepped on the scale.
“Official weight: 184 and a half for the challenger, Elwood Dalton,” the announcer said. Gyllenhaal then flashed his muscles and posed as cheers erupted from the crowd, before shaking hands with UFC president Dan White.

MMA world champion Jay Hieron, who plays Dalton’s rival Jack Harris, then stepped in next, weighing in at 185 lbs. He and Gyllenhaal were seen exchanging words, before Gyllenhaal slapped Hieron, 46, in a dramatic moment for filming.

“We have the biggest fight House on the road history, Harris vs. Dalton UFC 222,” said McGregor, 35. “Everybody in this arena, you’re going to be a part of my movie coming out with me, Jake Gyllenhaal and Joel Silver producing. Be sure to cheer for the weigh-ins and let’s go to Las Vegas.”

Film director Doug Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity), said in a previous statement: “I am delighted to give my opinion on the beloved House on the road legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I will do with this legendary role.”
