James Marsden has one proud mom!
In a screenshot of a text exchange with his mother Kathleen posted on his Instagram Story on Monday, Jury duty star, 50, shared the sweet moment the two had via text after Sunday’s Golden Globes.
At the 2024 awards, Marsden was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the mockumentary Amazon Freevee. He ended up losing out to Matthew Macfayden for his HBO role Successionbut that didn’t make Kathleen any less proud of her son.
“My favorite moment tonight was when they put up your picture with the other five nominees,” she said in a text message posted by Marsden. “Just like I’ve been looking at different pictures of the nominees together all my life.”

‘Jury Duty’ fan favorite Ronald Gladden was James Marsden’s first call after his 2023 Emmy nomination.
“Me too [am] speaking to yourself — my son is one of the 6 selected and here he is on the TV screen next to the other nominees. MY son did it. I can’t stop laughing,” she continued.
Marsden returned her feelings with a simple caption that read: “My mom, I love you” and a red heart emoji.

James Marsden recalls a ‘bizarre experience’ as a juror when a barrister praised his work mid-trial
Marsden played a heightened version of himself Jury dutywhich followed a cast playing the unusual roles of American citizens invited to serve on a jury – as well as one non-actor, Richard Gladden, who thought the whole experience was real.
Marsden previously told PEOPLE that he and Gladden have remained friends since the unsuspecting comedy subject found out that everyone but him was a paid actor on the show.
“It was really important to me, I said, ‘I can’t finish this and then say, ‘Hey, buddy, it was fun, see you around,'” Marsden said. “If we’re really celebrating the guy, then we have to stay friends. And he’s so pure of heart—I’d like to be friends with him anyway.”

Gladden spoke about his experience on the whirlwind series and how happy he was to find that Marsden’s on-screen persona was far removed from him.
“One minute I loved James and the next I hated him, but then he would come back,” he recalled. “So throughout that whole process it’s just been a rollercoaster, the best way I can describe it.”
“But when I found out it was fake, I was so relieved … to know he wasn’t that guy,” he added, before sharing how he would like to stay close to the cast.
