JAMES Morrison found his partner dead when a concerned friend saw a note on the front door following their split, an inquest heard.
Gill Catchpole (45) was discovered in the annex of the house she shared with the singer and their two daughters on January 5.

Today’s inquest into Gill’s death revealed the couple had separated about a year before her death, causing her mental health to deteriorate.
Gill’s colleague called James when he went to pick her up and discovered the note on the front door of the home in Whitminster, Gloucestershire.
Tragically, the star discovered his ex-partner dead in the annex where she lived.
Gloucestershire coroner Roland Wooderson returned a verdict of suicide after hearing that Gill suffered from a number of health problems, including depression and anxiety.
Singer James did not attend the inquest at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court.
The hearing was told Gill, who ran a cafe called the Cotswold Sandwich Box, was diagnosed with kidney disease and hypertension in 2008.
She also suffered from postnatal depression in 2010 and 2018 after giving birth to her two daughters, now aged 15 and five, with her youngest born 13 weeks premature.
In 2020, he received treatment that included a range of immune-suppressing drugs, anti-depressants and counseling for PTSD.
Last year Gill had a kidney transplant, which caused further anxiety and “negative thoughts of self-harm”, the court heard.
On two occasions she felt so bad that she called the Samaritans, but convinced her doctor that her children and family would continue to harm her.
Mom also had a seizure last August that was brought on by her anxiety and excessive drinking.

On the day she died, police found the remains of a glass of vodka and Coke on the mantelpiece and a half-empty bottle of vodka on the kitchen table.
Officers also discovered a series of handwritten messages addressed to her family.
The police previously stated that they are confident that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
The autopsy showed that the mother of two’s temporary cause of death was strangulation.
Mr Wooderson told the inquest: “It is clear to me that Gill was in a difficult state mentally at the time.”
Gill’s death was the fourth tragedy to strike Brit Award-winning artist James, following the deaths of his father, brother and nephew.
The You Give Me Something singer met Gill when he was 17 after she moved into his mother’s home with her then-boyfriend.
James serenaded his future partner by singing songs from Stevie Wonder’s album Key Of Life.

Speaking to The Sun in 2019, James revealed that his album You’re Stronger Than You Know was inspired by Gill after their youngest daughter was born 13 weeks premature.
He said: “Luckily I can look back and it’s all rosy and rosy now.”
James added: “But when Gill broke her water and she was born so early and tiny, we didn’t know what was going to happen.
“That’s probably the lowest I’ve ever been.
“That’s why now, looking back, I called the album You’re Stronger Than You Know, because Gill was amazing.”
