The ‘One Tree Hill’ star shared her experiences with her followers on Instagram after back pain led to a hospital visit
Jana Kramer shares the details of a hospital visit she had to make during a trip to Florida.
The country singer and actress, 39 — who confirmed to PEOPLE in June that she is expecting a child with fiance Allan Russell — shared a detailed message on Instagram on Sunday, revealing that she discovered she had a bacterial infection in her kidneys while she and Russell were on their “Babymoon”.
Along with photos of herself and her fiance in hospital rooms during their Florida getaway, Kramer wrote that while their baby is “doing well,” the celebratory trip came with “some lessons learned.”
“Part 1… Well. Our baby month didn’t go as planned, but we learned some lessons. First and foremost, the baby is fine♥️,” she captioned the post, before telling her followers they could hear his “cute” heartbeat” inside her carousel post.
She then continued, “The back pain I’ve been dealing with for weeks wasn’t just back pain. Lesson number one…don’t just push the pain away, because it can be more serious than you think. So many times (moms) especially) just shake the pain off because we are the last to take care of ourselves.”
“When I announced a week ago that my back hurts, I just attributed it to the pregnancy and didn’t tell the doctors because back pain is ‘normal’ so I thought ‘don’t be a weakling,'” Kramer added.
“Then someone very dear sent me a message in my dm that maybe it could be my kidney. (I have since thanked her for her dm💜).”

Kramer then said that she still boarded the plane to Florida so as not to “ruin” their trip, but when they landed, she went to the hospital because she “couldn’t take the pain anymore.”
“Long story short, it was a bad bacterial infection that got into the kidneys. It resulted in a two day hospital stay and antibiotics because I let it get to where I needed to,” she wrote. “So. Lesson. Listen to your body. You’re not a baby or inconveniencing people. If it hurts you, talk to your doctor.”
The musician then shared some advice for her followers: “Leaving things for too long or not taking care of yourself when you’re not feeling well can become very serious,” she wrote.
“Also invite this amazing man who I begged to go sleep in the beautiful hotel he got for us, but instead he slept on a pull-out chair,” Kramer added of Russell.
“*Tip… Find a man who doesn’t make you feel bad or leave you when you don’t. Shout out to the nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm. Y’all were the sweetest. Xx”

Along with his message, Kramer shared several photos of her at the hospital, including one of her rocking her bare baby bump. The carousel also featured a video that showed the musician lying on a hospital bed while recording the sound of her baby’s heartbeat, as well as photos of Russell standing next to her wrapped in a blanket on a chair next to her hospital bed.
Kramer later shared another Instagram post that included pictures of her on a beach in Florida, drinking from a coconut and kissing Russell in front of the water.
“Part 2: The upside of not feeling well in Florida…this view,” she captioned the post, adding, “Even though it was just one day to enjoy, we soaked up every minute. I love you @superiorstriker.”
Kramer — who shares daughter Jolie Rae and son Jace Joseph with ex-husband Mike Caussina — revealed her third pregnancy to PEOPLE last month, revealing at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas that her last pregnancy was “harder,” and still is considered “great”.
“Obviously, it was a little more difficult. I’m just a little older and this is my third child,” Kramer said. “Things are a little different now, but it’s great. I am so blessed. I didn’t think this would be possible, so it’s a beautiful, beautiful thing.”

The musician and Russell got engaged in May after nearly seven months of dating, and announced the baby news exclusively to PEOPLE the following month. Her former soccer player fiance is also the father of a 16-year-old son.
“I give people hope that you can have a happy ending,” Kramer told PEOPLE at the time. “I remember two years ago I was in my bed and I said, ‘I’ll never be loved again, it’s over for me. Who will ever want me?’ ”
“I’m the happiest now and I have so much love in my life, and not just because of my fiance and my kids, but because I finally started loving myself and having that journey,” she added.
