He’s been playing racing video games since he was a teenager and became a racing driver by winning GT Academy races. In 2023, a film based on his life will be released called Gran Turismo.

Jann Mardenborough was born on Monday 9 September 1991 in Darlington, County Durham, England (age 32; until 2023). His zodiac sign is Virgo. His grandparents came to the UK from St Kitts and Nevis in the early 1960s. He later moved to Cardiff as his father played for various clubs in the area. He completed his studies at Ruddle Comprehensive School in Cardiff. Jann was interested in cars and racing from a young age and started playing the Gran Turismo video game when he was 8 years old.
When he was 17, unable to afford off-the-shelf equipment, he made his own simulator rig. He attended Swansea Metropolitan University (renamed Trinity St David’s Polytechnic University of Wales) to study for a degree in motorsport engineering; however, he dropped out of the course after three weeks because he did not like the mathematics subject on the course. He returned to Cardiff and began living with his parents.

GT Academy Competition
In 2011, he competed in the Gran Turismo 5 GT Academy competition, beating 90,000 competitors to finish in the top 20 in the time trial, before winning the 20-minute race at Silverstone National Circuit by eight seconds. Contest. The race took place in a Nissan 370Z sports car. He revealed in an interview that before the race, he had never driven any sports car and had never been to a track.
After winning the race, he signed a professional racing contract with Nissan, where he subsequently trained and competed in national events and received his international racing license.

In May 2023, Maddenborough will mark his return to racing by participating in the 24 Hours of Fuji in the Super Fast series. He joins the Helm Motorsports team, driving a Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.
His return to the track was notable as he and his team secured pole position for the event. Throughout the game, they were in the lead for a long time. However, the race presented challenges and they faced braking issues. As a result, despite their strong performance, they finished fourth.
24 Hours of Le Mans
In 2013, he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Zytek Z11SN-Nissan car, finishing third in class and ninth overall; he raced for the Greaves Motorsports team. In 2014, he led OAK Racing back to Le Mans, driving a Ligier-Nissan LMP2 car and finishing ninth overall and fifth in class. He also competed for Nissan Motorsports in the LMP1 class at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, despite difficulties with their GT-R LM Nismo car.
Accident at the Nürburgring Endurance Series
On March 28, 2015, Maddenborough was driving a Nissan GT3 Nismo sports car during the 2015 VLN endurance race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife when the vehicle left the track and entered the spectator area. The incident resulted in the death of one spectator, and several people were injured and sent to the hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the accident has not been disclosed. The carmaker Nissan issued a statement confirming the incident. According to their statement, the car left the track on the “Flugplatz” section of the circuit, went over the fence and landed on the roof of the spectator area.
British GT Championship
In 2012, Mardenborough represented RJN Motorsport in the British GT Championship in a Nissan GT-R GT3. He teamed up with Alex Buncombe to win a race at Brands Hatch. They finished sixth in the GT3 championship despite facing challenges in the final race due to a shock absorber problem. Madenberg also competes in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

In 2013, Madenburg entered the world of Formula 3 racing. He competed in the 2013 New Zealand Toyota Racing Series, winning the Rookie of the Year award and finishing tenth in the championship. He joined Carlin Motorsport in the 2013 FIA European Formula 3 Championship and the 2013 British Formula 3 Championship. In the 2014 GP3 series, Mardenborough raced with Arden International.
He won his first GP3 race in Germany, starting from pole and setting the fastest lap in the reverse grid sprint. In 2015, Madenberg moved to Carlin to participate in the GP3 series. He finished in the top five five times, finished on the podium twice, and finished ninth despite missing some races. Super GT
GT300 class
In 2016, Mardenborough moved to Japan to drive a Nissan GT-R GT3 racing car in the 2016 GT300 Super GT class. With NDDP Racing, he took his first victory at the Fuji 500km with Kazuki Hoshino and another podium finish at Buriram. They entered the season finale just two points off the title lead, finishing fourth.
GT500 class
In 2017, Mardenborough competed in Super GT’s premier GT500 class with the Calsonic-sponsored Impul Racing team. He and teammate Hironobu Yasuda finished 15th in the standings despite Nissan facing challenges from Honda and Toyota. Their season included a tight battle for victory in Buriram, but pit stops and car issues hampered their chances. In 2018, he stayed with Impul alongside Daiki Sasaki, scoring three top-six finishes in the initial event.
A potential win at the Fuji 500 was missed due to technical issues while leading; however, at Sugo he claimed his first GT500 podium finish in third despite facing overheating issues. Mardenborough joined Kondo Racing in 2019, working with Gao Xingguangdian. Although Yokohama Tire was less competitive than its rivals, they finished narrowly behind Impul in the championship, picking up multiple points and a fourth-place finish.
In 2020, Maddenburg and Gaoxing faced difficulties due to the lack of competitiveness of Nissan GT-R and Yokohama tires. Although he was often faster than his team-mates, he finished 19th in the championship, but came close to finishing on the podium due to technical problems at Fuji. Despite his speed, Maddenborough was not retained by Nissan for the 2021 season, after which he was rested for about 2 years.
Super Formula Championship
Maddenborough competed in the 2017 Super Formula Championship, finishing in the top eight several times and finishing 14th overall.
