jared lorenzen news
Jared Lorenzen, a former NFL quarterback, died Wednesday at the age of 38 after suffering kidney problems, heart problems and infections, according to his family.
The family of the former New York Giants backup quarterback said in a statement Wednesday that they are “deeply saddened to announce that Jared passed away today.” Keep Jared’s family, especially his children, in your prayers.
Before turning professional, Lorenzen spent four seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats. With 10,354 pitches in his career, he held the Wildcats record. From 2006 to 2007, he was the Giants’ backup quarterback.
A broken leg ultimately ended Lorenzen’s football career, which he last did for the Northern Kentucky River Monsters of the Continental Minor League.

An earlier statement read: “On Friday, June 28, Jared began playing a bigger and more meaningful game than ever before. Jared was sick for a few weeks and finally got it. After being taken to the hospital, he was immediately placed in the intensive care unit.
Jared is dealing with kidney and heart problems and infections. His immediate family supports him as he struggles with everything he has.
His family said earlier this week that his treatment “has been effective.”
“Jared’s night was uneventful and that’s a good thing,” the family said in a statement to Kentucky Sports Radio on Tuesday. “He is still receiving dialysis. He still stands his ground. Although his medications have been effective, his heart and kidney problems persist. Jared is still sick, but he’s thriving and he’s a warrior. The entire family appreciates his prayers and support.
