Jason Kelce is speaking publicly about the moment he smashed a Penn State fan’s phone for calling his brother, Travis Kelce, a homophobic slur.
In the now-popular clip shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Nov. 2, the retired Philadelphia Eagles star, 37 — who was outside Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa., for the Penn State-Ohio State game — reacted after the man called Travis “the f*ck who’s dating Taylor Swift.”
About the latest episode of Brothers New heights podcast that aired on Wednesday, November 6, Jason expressed regret for also saying the word after he was seen standing in front of a man saying, “Who the hell is it now?” in viral clips.
Travis began the podcast, “I know you wanted to clear the air a little bit, so go ahead,” and Jason responded, “I’m just going to deal with it, I feel like it’s due one more time and then hopefully we can stop talking about this really stupid the situation.”

The father of three — who first spoke about the incident on Nov. 4 on ESPN Monday night countdown — he added, “I’m not happy about the situation, my reaction gave him time and also gave the situation a bad name. I’m sorry for that. It didn’t deserve the attention, it’s really stupid… if he just keeps walking, that’s fucking burger, no one sees it, it’s out there now and it’s just perpetuating more hate.”
Jason insisted that “my biggest regret is saying that word to be honest with you… the word he used is just fucking ridiculous and it takes it to another level. It’s just off the wall, f—— over the line .”
“It’s dehumanizing and it got under my skin, it caused a reaction. In the heat of the moment, I thought ‘Hey, what am I going to say to him? I’m going to throw this s— right back at his F— him,'” the athlete said , admitting that he now knows he “shouldn’t have done that.”
“What I regret is that now there’s a video that’s full of hate, that’s online now that’s been seen by millions of people and I share the fault of maintaining it and putting it out there,” Jason told listeners.

Travis had nothing but praise for his brother, insisting that the people “uploading the videos” created “a bigger situation than I think it really is.”
“The real situation is that some fucking clown came up to you and talked about your family, and you reacted in a way that defended your family, and maybe you used some words that you regret using,” the Kansas tight end continued. City Chiefs. “It’s a situation that you just have to learn from and own. I think that owning it and talking about it shows how honest you are to a lot of people in this world.”
“You don’t choose hate, you just don’t,” Travis added. “I love you bro, I think you said it perfectly.”
Following Saturday’s incident involving an unidentified college football fan, PEOPLE has confirmed that Penn State University police have launched an investigation.
PEOPLE reached out to representatives for Jason and ESPN at the time, but did not immediately hear back.
