JC Chasez Leads Singalong of *NSYNC Hits at & Juliet Performance: 'First Time Singing on a Broadway Stage'

JC Chasez turned the performance of the jukebox musical on November 21st & Juliet to a mini *NSYNC concert.

In celebration of the show’s special theme night (the crowd was encouraged to sing along to the soundtrack by hitmaker Max Martin), non-cast member Chasez *NYSNC exited stage right to lead the crowd at New York’s Stephen Sondheim Theater in a sing-along the boy band’s 2000 hit “Bye Bye Bye.”

After the play — which is a reimagining of Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet with Martin’s modern classics like “Overprotected” (Britney Spears), “Break Free” (Ariana Grande) and, yes, *NSYNC hits like “It’s Gonna Be Me” — Chasez, 48, returned to the stage to join the performers for another song .

“So this show is much better with singing, right?” Chasez said to a scream from the crowd. “How good is that? How incredible? Like, unbelievable.”

“I had one problem with the show. One problem with the show. This is actually my first time singing on a Broadway stage when I sang with you at the beginning, and I feel like I want to do it again,” Chasez teased to even more applause.

He asked & Juliet actors to join him and “sing a song that Max wrote that didn’t make it into the play that I think should have made it into the play. Let’s go!”

Chasez and the cast then launched into a high-energy rendition of “Tearin’ Up My Heart,” the 1998 dance-pop hit from *NSYNC’s self-titled debut album. (The other members of the boy band are Justin Timberlake, 43, Joey Fatone, 47, Chris Kirkpatrick, 53, and Lance Bass, 45.)

“I had the pleasure of seeing & Juliet on several occasions and the energy in the room was always electric,” Chasez said in a press release announcing his participation earlier in November. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the fun with the fans to honor my good friend Max and celebrate two years Broadway shows.”

The appearance of Chasez — who recently released a music concept album Playing with firea reinterpretation of Mary Shelley Frankenstein — comes just weeks before his bandmate Fatone will join & Juliet in January.

“I am excited to join the cast & Juliet,“, Fatone said in October when his election was announced. “I can’t wait to get out there and sing Max Martin’s incredible songs — his hits have shaped a lot of pop music. And, yes, I know I’ll even sing a few Backstreet Boys songs. Although I remain loyal to NSYNC, they still have bangers.”
