Jeana Turner gets candid about her time America’s Next Top Model in an exclusive clip from VICE The Dark Side of Reality TV.Turner was the runner-up in the latest cycle of the popular competition reality show, which brought viewers to tears as she admitted to the audience that she was diagnosed with alopecia at the age of 10. Before this recognition, she always wore wigs and covered her head in the show, but in a touching moment she took off her wig and shaved her head.
“Taking the wig off is really liberating, liberating,” Turner continued ANTM. “I feel like the whole world can see me now. I feel like I can see myself now.”

But the model now seems to feel a little differently about the situation, given her interview with producers for The Dark Side of Reality TV.
In a clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Turner cries as she admits in the documentary that she “wasn’t ready” to be a bald model.
“I wouldn’t even run down my driveway to the mailbox if I didn’t have hair,” Turner admitted while crying in the clip. “Like I really wasn’t ready for him to be so clean-shaven on TV.”
Since leaving the show, Turner has been an outspoken critic of the program, as well as its longtime host and creator Tyra Banks.

“And then to be told: ‘Walk around like that. And you have to believe it’s beautiful.’ What if I didn’t?” she continued. “Obviously I didn’t think she was pretty – I was covering her up with wigs.”
She is one of many former contestants who have made accusations against the host and the show, and she dives into the fallout during America’s Next Top Model episode of The Dark Side of Reality TV.
“We wanted to end the season with a bang and America’s Next Top Model lived up to it,” showrunner Meghan Payne tells PEOPLE. “As someone who grew up watching ANTMI always looked forward to watching the cuts to see what new information was revealed.”

Payne noted how many confessionals in the series were used “out of context” – and Turner was especially susceptible to this harsh editing tactic.
“Jeana Turner explained that they used one of her interviews about being suicidal and upset, as a response to her being sad about losing the challenge,” according to Payne, promising that Turner has more to share about her experience on The Dark Side of Reality TV.
Banks has been approached about the series, although she does not appear in an episode that focuses on her ANTM. PEOPLE contacted a representative of the Bank for comment.
The series also covered other reality favorites, e.g Little children and tiaras and Hell’s kitchenand America’s Next Top FashionI will wrap up the first season of this documentary series. Although a second season has yet to be confirmed, Payne says Netflix is a hit Love is blind is “at the top of everyone’s list” for a future deep dive.
