Jenna Lyons always seems to find herself in a sticky situation when it comes to wearing latex clothing.
The The Real Housewives of New York star and former creative director and president of J.Crew, 55, loves the rubber look (despite literally finding herself in her own latex bodysuit once — her “worst nightmare,” she said on Instagram) and will go to unusual lengths to pull off one.
In an interview for Checking with Vogue podcast, the trendsetter revealed that she willingly covered herself in — well, technically the Saint Laurent one-piece with a fake latex collar she wore to Usher’s Paris Fashion Week bash on Sept. 29 — in a liquid that’s “basically a lubricant.”
And she explained why. “The problem is when you wear latex you have to put a lubricant on it because otherwise it doesn’t shine,” Lyons said.

Of course, it’s a hack that comes with sacrifices. “So then you can’t come up with anything. You must not hug anyone, you must not rub against anything and you must not sit on a piece of upholstered furniture because you will destroy it. So you’re a bit of a freak. You go into the party like ‘Don’t touch,’” she explained.
Using lube for an extra layer of shine is the only solution, according to the Bravo star – and she resorts to it so often that she needed a refill for Fashion Week. (Apparently the lube-like fluid that the designer body was given wasn’t enough.)
“I was a Parisian outcast,” she jokingly agreed, adding that she pretty much embodied a “huge sex toy.”
Another consequence of wearing latex all night, Lyons added, is sweat build-up. “You come home and create an ecosystem inside your own body,” she said.

The fashion choice was risky for Lyons, whose arrival at Paris Fashion Week this season was a surprising first.
“I went to Paris with Victoria Beckham. They invited me to come because we’re doing something together,” she teased, explaining, “I’ve always been on the design side. I am not an editor. There was never any reason for me to go and I wasn’t invited to those things. I never really had a reason to go.”
Lyons, on the other hand, is a style disruptor who doesn’t shy away from the unconventional.
Last month, she revealed on Instagram that she was wearing Levi’s jeans on RHONY reunion in Season 14, becoming the first Housewife not to adhere to the unofficial dress-only dress code.
The reduced ensemble received mixed reactions from fans across Instagram, but still RHONY actors who all agree that Lyons is the fashion icon of the group.

“Everyone will say the same, right? It’s Jenna,” Erin Dana Lichy told PEOPLE on RHONY premiered in July when she was asked whose closet she would like to dive into. “She has everything, so I’m actually going to steal everything.”

I’d love to get to Jenna’s closet and stay there for a while.”
Brynn Whitfield agreed that her co-star has an epic wardrobe. “She let me search her closet a few times when I had little crises about what to wear and it was as good asVogue locker. I mean, yeah, it’s amazing,” she shared.
