Pancake makeup is commonly used on theater performers so that the audience can better see their faces from a great distance. However, in normal lighting, high coverage makeup looks incredibly extreme.

Jennifer Garner hilariously documents how she was a ‘mom in a haunted house’: ‘I’m not the one you want, take my son!’
“I had a box of stage makeup and I thought, if I want to look pretty, I should wear that same makeup,” she said in an interview in 2019. “So I put my makeup on like a pancake. I put on blush. I actually looked like Raggedy Ann.”
Garner also jokingly told PEOPLE that her makeup skills aren’t much better as an adult. “Do I seem like someone who is good at applying makeup?” she said. “I have the most beautiful brushes and I have contouring stuff. If I used them, I’d just look bruised.”
