Jennifer Lopez isn’t usually “a vacation person,” but spending the last few summers in Italy has changed her mind.
“When I finally went to spend several summers in a row in the south of Italy, I really liked it,” Lopez (54) said in a new interview with Travel + free time.
Lopez, 54, explained that her life was usually “always work, work, work,” but trips to Italy changed her mindset. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, have I been missing this all my life,'” the singer joked.

What keeps the “On the Floor” singer coming back to the European region is her affinity for the ocean.
“I just love being on the water, to be honest. I feel that water is really something that calms me down. I can actually sit still and stare at the ocean and the sky,” said the actress. “I like being right on the coast, it’s nice, eating outside and enjoying the fresh air.”
Lopez went on to say that she knew how to appreciate the Italian environment because her work primarily keeps her at home. “I think being outside is a luxury for me because I’m always inside the studios and sets, recording sessions inside,” she said. Travel + free time.

Lopez also shared how special it is to take her children — Maximilian “Max” David Muniz, 15, and Emma Maribel Muniz, 15 — on these international trips. When they were four, she took them to Singapore during her Dance Again World Tour in 2012, she said.
“They came back from that trip saying, ‘Can we come back to Singapore next year?’ Where someone like me, who grew up in the Bronx, never had those things,” Lopez revealed.

The twins also joined Fraudsters star during her trips to Italy, as well as her husband, Ben Affleck.
Affleck and Lopez traveled the country during their honeymoon in August 2022 and were photographed strolling the streets of Milan and Como, Italy.
Lopez and Affleck exchanged wedding vows in July 2022 in Las Vegas and then tied the knot on August 20, 2023 at their home in Riceboro, Georgia.
The couple first dated in July 2002 and split in 2004. They rekindled their relationship almost two decades later in 2021. “It’s a beautiful outcome that it happened this way at this time in our lives where we can really appreciate and celebrate each each other and respect each other,” Lopez previously told PEOPLE.
